IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In some countries owning a home rather than renting one is very important for people. Why might this be the case? Do you think this is a positive or negative situation?
Student answer (Band 5.5)
Purchasing shelter rather than renting now becoming more crucial for citizens in multiple countries across the world. Moreover, many individuals are getting homeless in their old ages so governments are trying to force their people to own a home. Nevertheless, In this essay i will share my point of view why i think this is a positive approach.
Nowadays more people are getting homeless in their old ages. Because they are not intersted to buy a house in thier employment period. For instance youngsters mostly spend thier money on expenses like luxuary cars, watches when they have a source of income and they did not think about the future like where they live for their rest of the life. However governments now enforcing the public to must own a house since providing the shelters for all homeless individuals is getting more expensive for the countires.
In my perspective i think this can be positive situation. I believe that owning a home is also provide the some sort of motivation and also a relaxation. For example, people feel more motivated when they buy a house because now they can do anything what they want like choosing paint of their home and designing the house by thereselves Moreover it also provide relaxation because they did not have to pay rents to the landlords.
In conclusion, The governments are forcing their public to owning house rather than renting becaue the number of homeless people are getting rise. However I believe this is a positive situation and people must prefer to buy house because it provide a motivation and also relief from the paying rents stress.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses both parts of the prompt, explaining why homeownership is important (fear of homelessness in old age, motivation, and financial relief) and clearly stating a position that this is a positive situation. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited and repetitive. For instance, the discussion regarding young people spending money on luxury cars instead of saving for a house is introduced in the second paragraph, but the arguments lack depth and extension. The conclusion merely restates points rather than synthesizing them. While all parts of the task are addressed, the support remains basic and lacks more sophisticated elaboration, aligning the response with Band 6.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct points, such as the reasons for buying a home versus the evaluation of it as a positive situation. However, cohesion is at times mechanical and faulty. Transitional phrases like 'Moreover' and 'However' are used, but referencing is occasionally unclear, such as the phrase 'this can be positive situation' and awkward pronoun usage like 'thereselves'. Furthermore, repetitive sentence structures disrupt the logical flow between sentences. These issues place the response firmly in the Band 5.5 to 6.0 range, comfortably supported at Band 6.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common items such as 'employment period', 'luxuary cars', and 'financial relief'. However, there are numerous word choice and collocation inaccuracies throughout the text, such as 'Purchasing shelter' instead of buying a home, 'getting homeless' instead of becoming homeless, and spelling errors like 'intersted', 'thier', and 'luxuary'. While these errors do not severely impede overall communication, they restrict the vocabulary score. The lexical range is minimally sufficient to convey the intended meaning, but lacks the precision and control required for higher bands.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting structures such as conditional and causative ideas (e.g., 'since providing the shelters for all homeless individuals is getting more expensive'). However, frequent grammatical errors are present, including missing articles ('in old ages'), incorrect verb forms ('did not think', 'are getting rise'), and punctuation issues. For example, sentences like 'In my perspective i think this can be positive situation' contain multiple grammatical omissions and awkward phrasing. Although the meaning remains mostly clear to the reader, the density of errors prevents the grammar from achieving a Band 6.
