IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In some countries owning a home rather than renting one is very important for people. Why might this be the case? Do you think this is a positive or negative situation?
Student answer (Band 5.0)
In some countries, some people think that owning a home is very important in their life, other thinks that we live in renting one.
In my opinion,I thinks that owning a personal home has many benefits. First of all one does not have to pay for his garage charges,he should park his car whenever he comes from office,in this way his loved car is on the front of him. The second reason one does not have to pay rent for every month,as the rental charges increasing at higher rate,in this way he can saves money.
Another reason is that personal house is spacious than a rental apartment and one have to change his doors and fans according to its choice as the apartment does not offers.
From the other side,I thinks that living in a rental house or a apartment have disadvantages because if one does not pay for rental charges every month, then the apartment holder throws his all items out, also one does not have apace to park his car, also he does not have the apourtunity to change something as it is not his own.
Bying his own house has a great blessing because a person makes a garden in front according to his thinking, also he make his own type furniture.
To sum up, it is definately true that a own house has a great blessing and one lives in it according to its own taste.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The student attempts to address both parts of the prompt, discussing why homeownership is valued and whether this is a positive or negative situation. However, the response is under length, containing 234 words compared to the 250-word minimum requirement. This negatively impacts the full development of ideas, keeping the task response limited. While the student outlines reasons such as financial savings, personal customisation, and freedom from landlords, the arguments remain somewhat repetitive and under-developed, particularly regarding the negative aspects of renting. The position is generally clear, but the lack of sufficient length and depth places this response firmly at Band 5.0.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The text demonstrates some organisation with basic paragraph breaks, but there is no clear overall progression of ideas. Cohesive devices are minimal, repetitive, or inaccurate, such as 'First of all', 'Another reason', and 'From the other side'. Additionally, referencing is frequently unclear, as seen in pronouns like 'he' and 'its' which often lack precise antecedents. The transitional phrases feel mechanical, and the paragraphing is rudimentary. These issues align well with the Band 5 descriptor for Coherence and Cohesion.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, relying heavily on simple terms like 'house', 'apartment', 'money', and 'rent'. There are noticeable lexical errors and awkward collocations throughout the text, such as 'loved car', 'garage charges', 'rental charges increasing at higher rate', and 'apartment holder throws his all items out'. While the meaning can generally be discerned, the limited range and frequent inaccuracies constrain the lexical score to Band 4.5, rounded here to 5.0 due to minimally adequate communication.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay displays a very limited range of grammatical structures, relying mostly on simple sentences joined by basic coordinating conjunctions. Attempts at complex structures are often faulty, featuring frequent punctuation errors, run-on sentences, and comma splices, such as 'In some countries, some people think that owning a home is very important in their life, other thinks that we live in renting one.' Agreement errors are common (e.g., 'other thinks', 'apartment does not offers'). These frequent grammatical errors cause some difficulty for the reader and reflect Band 4.5 to 5.0 characteristics.
