IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In some countries owning a home rather than renting one is very important for people. Why might this be the case? Do you think this is a positive or negative situation?
Student answer (Band 5.0)
In some countries people prefer buying their own house instead of living in a rental house .
their are many certain reasons in which people live in a rental house instead pf living in their own house.
It might positive sometime and it might also negative sometime because it depend on situation and also depend on financial condition.
In some countries people live in rental house because they have not too much money to buy their own house so in many countries owning a home rather then renting one is very important for people.
In my opinion sometime it is benefical to live in a rental house it depends on condition for example: when you have to live for a short term in another city or other country it is benefical for us to live in a rental house or apartment because it is less costly as compared to buying the new house and also it is less time taking process you just have to pay the rent and leave after the specfic time period which you have done in an agreement.
On the other hand when you have to live for long term you should have to buy own house instead of living in a rental house because the rental house have many problems foe example: the rent is increase every year and whenever the owner of the house push you out fron his house because of any bad argument.
So in my opinion work hard to buy new house of own because once you effort more for their own house you will relax for whole life for rent if you don't have enought money for buying own house you should buy in installments or buy on the behalf of bank.
The whole conversation's moral is that when you have to live long term any where you should have own house or when you have to live for short term you should have to live in rental house.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt, exploring why homeownership is valued and discussing whether this trend is positive or negative. However, the development of ideas is limited and sometimes repetitive. For instance, the student states that renting is cheaper for short-term stays, which is a relevant point, but the explanation remains superficial. The stance is stated overall, but the arguments lack depth and extended support, resulting in a performance that aligns with Band 5.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay lacks clear paragraphing and is largely presented as a single block of text or disjointed sentences, which hinders the logical progression. Cohesive devices are minimal, repetitive, or inaccurate, such as using 'In some countries...' multiple times to start unrelated ideas. There is a lack of effective referencing and transition words to guide the reader through the arguments, leading to an overall impression of a Band 4.5, rounded to Band 5 based on the basic structuring attempted.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, with frequent reliance on simple words like 'house', 'money', and 'live'. There are noticeable lexical errors, such as 'buy on the behalf of bank' instead of a mortgage, and 'The whole conversation's moral' instead of a concluding summary. While the meaning is generally communicated despite these limitations, the range is restricted and insufficient for higher bands, fitting the Band 5 descriptor.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay displays a very limited range of sentence structures, relying heavily on simple sentences joined by coordinating conjunctions or run-on clauses (e.g., 'It might positive sometime and it might also negative sometime because it depend on situation...'). There are frequent grammatical errors including subject-verb agreement issues ('it depend'), tense inconsistencies, missing articles, and punctuation flaws. These errors cause frequent strain for the reader, matching the profile for Band 4.5 to 5.0.
