IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In some countries owning a home rather than renting one is very important for people. Why might this be the case? Do you think this is a positive or negative situation?
Student answer (Band 5.5)
Shelter is considered as non discrestionary thing in life. And owning a house is crucial for many people than renting in some nations. There might be multiple reason for this, the causes along with my notion will be discussed in the ensuing paragraph.
The foremost reason for this is the moderate in many developing countries. For instance, in many cties of india the E-state cost is not too high, subsequently if a person have a specific amount which can be invested in buying the house rather than adding its montly expenditure on renting cost. Furthermore, house is always consider as an asset, hence if the price are relatively low, then it is very essential to buy a house in affordable price which can be serve as investment as well as provide shelter to a layman.
I certainly believe that it is a positive development, because not only it save a person from spending unnecessary on rent, but also it can be useful in emergency situation. To explain, unfortunately if any uncertainity occurs in future it can be used as an asset and can provide enough wealth to fulfill the requirements. Moreover, owning a house give you a self-relief as it always fulfill the need of shelter and provide solitude. That ultimately eliminate the burden of paying rents to the owner.
To encapsulate, while in many countries the properties rates are touching the heights however, it is significant to own a house for the people of many developing nations where the price of real estates are moderate, because it eradicate the burden of paying rents, stay as an asset which can be used in difficult situation as well as give to relaxation by removing other stress.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both parts of the task by explaining why owning a home is important and providing a clear position that this is a positive development. Ideas are presented and supported, such as discussing housing affordability in developing countries and the financial security property provides during emergencies. However, some arguments lack full extension and suffer from lexical imprecision, such as 'the moderate in many developing countries', which makes the underlying meaning slightly obscure. The position is clear throughout, and the main tenets of the prompt are covered, fitting the criteria for a Band 6.0.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with clear paragraphing, including an introduction, body paragraphs addressing causes and the positive view, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices are used to signal transitions, such as 'The foremost reason for this', 'Furthermore', and 'To encapsulate'. However, referencing and cohesion are sometimes faulty or mechanical, as seen in awkward transitions like 'subsequently if a person have a specific amount which can be invested'. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately, but the logical progression between sentences is occasionally hindered by grammatical phrasing issues, placing this securely at Band 6.0.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The writer attempts a range of vocabulary appropriate to the topic, including terms like 'discretionary', 'expenditure', 'uncertainty', and 'solitude'. However, there are noticeable inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'non discrestionary thing', 'E-state cost', and 'give to relaxation'. Additionally, spelling and word formation errors recur ('montly', 'cinties', 'prices are relatively low' matched with 'affordable price'). The lexical range is adequate for the task and permits the communication of main points, but errors in word selection prevent it from reaching a higher band, resulting in a score of 5.5.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, though complex structures frequently feature grammatical errors. Examples of errors include subject-verb agreement issues ('if a person have', 'owning a house give you'), incorrect prepositions ('in affordable price', 'spending unnecessary on rent'), and awkward phrasing ('the causes along with my notion will be discussed'). Punctuation is generally functional, but grammatical inaccuracies occur with high frequency and occasionally cause difficulty for the reader, particularly in longer sentences. This level of accuracy and range aligns with a Band 5.0.
