IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In some countries owning a home rather than renting one is very important for people. Why might this be the case? Do you think this is a positive or negative situation?
Student answer (Band 5.0)
In recent years, in several countries having a home rather than renting one is crucial for individuals because they feel unconfortable in the way renters treat them, I strongly believe it is a negative situation for people.
Peoples are choosing to buy a home rather than renting it is due relatively related to the bad attitude of the owner of the house. Owners are repetively warning their renters to pay their monthly fees of the house, thus, this will probably make the individuals nerves and sometimes unhappy. As a result, peoples who rant appartment and houses are more likly to fight with their nighbors and avoid the owner as much as possible.
I largly believe it is a negative situation because some people doesn't have enough financial resourses to buy houses, they end up being forced to rent a house even if the conditions are harmful. Residents must have the right to rent a house in the best conditions, this includes emotional conditions as well. Owners behivors to their renters are unforgiveble so we need to set some limits for them. For example, owners can't enter to the rent house and can't talk to the renter
In conclusion, few contries owning a home rather than renting one is very important for many residents due to the bad bihevors of the owner. I think that this is a negative situation because the majority of peoples can't afford buying houses and end up forced in renting.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response attempts to address both parts of the prompt by discussing why owning a home is important and whether this situation is positive or negative. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited and restricted by the narrow focus on landlord-tenant conflicts. The writer asserts that people buy homes because renters are treated poorly by owners, which is a rather simplistic view of a complex socioeconomic issue. Furthermore, the length requirement has not been met, as the essay contains 244 words against the 250-word minimum, which incurs a penalty on Task Achievement. While a position is stated, the arguments remain underdeveloped, and examples such as 'owners can't enter to the rent house' lack sufficient elaboration to reach a higher band. Overall, the task is addressed only partially, placing this criterion at a band 5.0 level.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is divided into four paragraphs, showing a basic attempt at overall organisation. However, the progression of ideas is frequently disrupted by awkward transitions and mechanical cohesive devices, such as 'thus, this will probably make' and 'As a result, peoples who rant appartment'. Paragraphing is used to separate the introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion, but the internal logical flow within paragraphs is weak. Referencing is sometimes unclear, for instance, pronoun usage that leaves the exact referent ambiguous. The conclusion merely repeats earlier points without adding synthesis. These cohesive failings and the lack of a clear overall progression align the response with band 5.0 descriptors.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.5
The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, frequently impeded by spelling and word-choice errors. Examples of lexical errors include 'unconfortable', 'repetively', 'peoples', 'rant' instead of 'rent', 'appartment', 'nerves' instead of 'nervous', 'largly', 'resourses', 'behivors', 'unforgiveble', and 'bihevors'. The student attempts some less common vocabulary, such as 'financial resourses', but the frequent inaccuracies in spelling and collocation place a strain on the reader. There is a limited range of vocabulary that is barely adequate for the task, resulting in a band 4.5, which rounds to a band 5.0 based on general performance, though strictly speaking, the frequency of basic errors reflects band 4.5 limitations.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5
The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but these are frequently marred by basic grammatical errors. Examples include 'having a home rather than renting one is crucial... because they feel unconfortable', 'Peoples are choosing to buy a home rather than renting it is due relatively related to', 'some people doesn't have enough', and 'end up forced in renting'. Subject-verb agreement errors, incorrect preposition usage, and faulty tense consistency are recurrent throughout the text. While simple sentences are sometimes communicated successfully, complex structures often contain severe errors that impede understanding. This profile matches the band 4.5 to 5.0 descriptor range, leaning towards band 4.5 due to the density of grammatical mistakes.
