IELTS Writing Task 2 question

In some countries owning a home rather than renting one is very important for people. Why might this be the case? Do you think this is a positive or negative situation?

Student answer (Band 5.0)

In certain countries possessing a home instead of leasing one is very vital for individuals. In recent years, possesision or leasing of home for living is become highly debated issue in society. This matter is particularly significant due to its impact on home, influencing both individual and communties. While some people argue that owning a home is a way to make property for life time. I firmly believe that taking home for rent is well manared for individual even are buisnessman or a routine worker. In this essay, I will present the reasons supporting my point of view that it is positive or negative situation and also adress potential conterarguments.

Some individual believe that possession of home is beneficial for owner and his family due to that his children when grow up then his family members icrease by time than they face difficulties. For instance, a person who works in a company as a clerk in staff members having pay with 40000 rupees and he have to manage for family and his own expenses. When he own a home than he is free from paying rent for home. Althoughthis viewpoint may seem valid to some extent,I believe it overlooks sveral key aspect.Another reason why people hold this believe is because of income and expenses.

Nevertheless, these arguments are not entirely convincing when weighed against the broader implications.

One of the main reason I support that living on leased home is best in society and very crucial for families. This is evident from many of international reports by CNN and AL-JAZERA that even a buisness man or worker feels comfornt and prefer to live on rented hose because when they own a home they expend a huge amount of money on home, which is useless the reason behind is that you have to live in a home so you have to invest the money for build a home is useless , it is best way if you invest in a buisness and generate seperate income from that investment.

Therefore, it is clear that my opinion is well -founded and supported by both evidence and reasoning.

In conclusion Ibelieve that owning a home or takes rented home clearly support that leased home for living is positive situation.

Moving forward, it is essetial to recognize advantages of my point of view and apply in best ways that foster positive

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing why homeownership is important and presenting a clear position that renting is preferable. However, the development of ideas is hampered by lack of clarity and logical progression. For example, the explanation regarding the clerk with a 40000 rupees salary is underdeveloped and somewhat confusing. The conclusion abruptly cuts off ("that foster positive"), leaving the final part of the stance incomplete. The writer attempts to cover both why owning is important and whether it is a positive or negative situation, but the execution leans heavily on broad generalisations rather than fully articulated arguments. Consequently, the task response aligns best with Band 5 descriptors, as the position is sometimes obscured by weak supporting details and an incomplete ending.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The text shows some organisation with attempts at introductory and concluding frameworks, but overall progression is frequently disrupted. Paragraphing is attempted, but the body paragraphs are disjointed and overly dense, mixing multiple ideas without adequate transitions. For instance, the transition from discussing the clerk example to weighing broader implications is abrupt ('Nevertheless, these arguments are not entirely convincing...'). Cohesive devices are used mechanically or inaccurately, such as the frequent repetition of 'Therefore' and 'In conclusion', and referencing is occasionally unclear (e.g., 'this viewpoint', 'this believe'). These issues place the response firmly in the Band 5 category, where organisation is present but overall cohesion and logical flow are inconsistent.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The student demonstrates a limited but minimally adequate range of vocabulary for the task. There are frequent spelling and word-choice errors that occasionally cause difficulty for the reader, such as 'possesision', 'comfornt', 'hose' instead of house, 'essetial', and 'manared' for mannered or better. While the writer attempts some less common terms like 'implications', 'conterarguments', and 'international reports', inaccurate word formation and spelling mistakes ('buisness man', 'icrease') heavily restrict the lexical score. There is also noticeable repetition of basic words like 'home', 'living', and 'invest'. This vocabulary profile corresponds to a Band 5 level.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5

The writing exhibits a very limited range of grammatical structures, with frequent errors that regularly cause difficulty and strain for the reader. Simple sentences predominate, and attempts at complex structures are frequently faulty or ungrammatical, such as 'When he own a home than he is free from paying rent for home' and 'the reason behind is that you have to live in a home so you have to invest the money for build a home is useless'. Punctuation and article usage are also weak throughout the essay, with missing periods, misplaced commas, and uncapitalised new sentences in places. Because of the high frequency of basic grammatical errors and poorly constructed clauses, this meets the criteria for a Band 4.5, rounded to 4.5.
