Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt, exploring why people prefer owning a home and offering a clear stance that this is a positive situation. However, the development of ideas is limited and sometimes tangential, relying heavily on personal or confusing examples rather than well-extended general arguments. For instance, the reference to staying with a friend in Hyderabad or visiting Vijayawada is difficult to follow and does not fully explain the broader socio-economic reasons why homeownership is culturally or practically valued. The position is stated, but the ideas lack the depth required for higher band levels. This aligns with the Band 5 descriptor where the task is addressed, but ideas remain somewhat limited and under-developed.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
Paragraphing is attempted, with an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion, though the structure is somewhat rudimentary. Logical progression is frequently interrupted by abrupt shifts in ideas and weak transitions. Cohesive devices are used, but they are often repetitive or inaccurate, such as 'Furthermore', 'Another reason is that', and 'In addition'. Referencing is also occasionally unclear, leaving the reader confused about pronouns and subjects. There is no clear overall progression of argument, which places the response firmly within the Band 5 criteria for coherence and cohesion.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.0
The vocabulary used is very basic and repetitive, frequently relying on simple words like 'house', 'rent', 'people', and 'situation'. There are numerous spelling errors throughout the text, including 'conutries', 'postive', 'eassy', 'beacuse', 'evry', and 'esaay'. Word choice and collocations are often inappropriate, such as 'living in rent' instead of 'renting' or 'living in rented accommodation'. While the language is minimally adequate to convey a basic message, the frequent errors and restricted range of vocabulary reflect the Band 4 descriptor.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0
The essay displays a very limited range of grammatical structures. Simple sentences predominate, and attempts at complex or compound sentences are heavily flawed, often resulting in run-on sentences or fragments (e.g., 'Nowadays many conutries some people are living in rent and poeple want own house to live in their residence.'). Grammatical errors are very frequent, including missing articles, incorrect verb tenses, subject-verb agreement issues, and missing prepositions. These frequent errors often strain the reader's understanding, consistent with the Band 4 descriptor.
