Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: why homeownership is important and whether this trend is positive or negative. The student outlines reasons such as financial security and freedom from landlord restrictions, and takes a clear positive stance. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited and repetitive. For instance, the discussion on financial security and family well-being overlaps across paragraphs without sufficient extension or depth. While the main prompt questions are acknowledged, the arguments lack sophisticated elaboration and rely on general statements. This performance aligns best with the Band 5 descriptors, as the task is addressed, but ideas remain underdeveloped and somewhat repetitive.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organized into distinct paragraphs, including an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion, showing basic structural awareness. However, the logical progression is hindered by repetitive phrasing and weak cohesive ties. Phrases like 'To begin with,' 'Furthermore,' and 'In conclusion' are utilized, but transitional links between sentences are frequently mechanical or missing. Paragraphing is attempted, but internal cohesion is faulty; for example, referencing is sometimes unclear, such as 'Which are evidence of my point of views' in the final sentence. There is a lack of smooth transitions between ideas, particularly in the body sections. These features reflect the characteristics of Band 5, where organization is visible but lacks overall logical progression.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The student uses a basic and repetitive vocabulary with noticeable errors that occasionally impede understanding. Words like 'humankinds', 'apropriate', 'individauls', 'eminities', 'deposite', 'aspacts', and 'hasitation' demonstrate frequent spelling errors and incorrect word forms. There are also collocation and word choice inaccuracies, such as 'renting house may consist so many struggles' and 'family person is always have a tension'. While the writer attempts some less common vocabulary like 'financial security' and 'restrictions', the overall lexical range is limited and minimally adequate. The frequency of spelling and word choice errors places this text firmly at Band 5.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5
The text displays a very limited range of grammatical structures, relying heavily on simple sentences alongside poorly controlled complex attempts. Frequent grammatical errors are present throughout the essay, including subject-verb agreement issues ('every individual wants to their own home', 'family person is always have'), missing articles ('buying house', 'owning home'), and incorrect prepositions ('renting on others house'). Furthermore, punctuation and sentence boundaries are sometimes mishandled, as seen in fragmented or run-on structures like 'For instance, nowadays every house owner take annual deposite from renters With so many regulations...' These frequent errors cause occasional difficulty for the reader and reflect the limitations described in Band 4, though the presence of some correct simple structures lifts it to a 4.5.
