IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In some countries owning a home rather than renting one is very important for people. Why might this be the case? Do you think this is a positive or negative situation?
Student answer (Band 5.5)
Owning house is a previledge for the people who purchase it. Depending on the family and professional requirements, people prefer to either own it or rent it. It is always prefered to own a house in the home town where your childhood has past bacause of many factors including emotional attachment, security, residency proof, in proving citizenship, to live a stress free life, etc.
Everyone comes from a different background and so does their need and priorities. Usually public prefer to rent a house in cities where the stay for only work. Some highly expensive land in this world includes location like New York, Mumbai, Dubai, etc. All the employee class people choose to rent an apartment rather than buying because of high up-front cost of land and it's maintenance.
I believe to have atleast one home at a place where you live because it helps with gaining mentally stable life during hard times. There are multiple benifits of owing house in some special locations like dubai - it serves as a secondary income source by renting it to people living there. Many Celebrities buy house in such location with heavy investment and they themselves live an rented apartment to get high return on investment from their house.
Contrary to then fact of owning a house is expensive than renting, it is important to understand that once a home is bought it can be even listed for rent, so that over a period of time the land value and tenet's rent amount provides a mental peace to owner as alternate source of income generation.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing why homeownership is important (emotional attachment, security, citizenship proof, investment) and giving a clear viewpoint on whether this is positive or negative, framing investment and financial security as positive aspects. The position is generally clear throughout. However, some ideas are slightly under-developed or repetitive, such as the discussion of renting in cities versus owning in hometowns. The arguments are presented with some generalisations, which places this performance securely at Band 6.0 in terms of task coverage and idea extension.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The text has a coherent overall arrangement and logical progression, moving from reasons for owning a home to why people rent, and then discussing the financial benefits of owning. Paragraphing is used, though paragraph boundaries and transitions could be smoother. Cohesive devices are sometimes mechanical or faulty, such as 'Contrary to then fact of owning a house is expensive than renting', and referencing is occasionally unclear (e.g., 'All the employee class people'). Overall, the cohesion meets the criteria for Band 6.0 as the progression is generally clear despite minor awkwardness.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common items like 'previledge', 'up-front cost', and 'return on investment'. However, there are notable spelling errors ('previledge', 'prefered', 'bacause', 'benifits', 'owing', 'tenet's') and occasional word-choice inaccuracies (e.g., 'employee class people', 'gain mentally stable life'). These lexical errors and spelling mistakes do not severely impede communication, but they restrict the score to Band 5.5 due to the noticeable frequency of slips.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as 'Depending on the family and professional requirements, people prefer to either own it or rent it.' However, there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation, including subject-verb agreement issues ('Everyone comes... and so does their need and priorities'), preposition errors ('live an rented apartment'), and awkward phrasing ('to have atleast one home at a place where you live because it helps with gaining mentally stable life'). These errors occasionally cause some difficulty, aligning the grammar with a Band 5.0.
