IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In some countries owning a home rather than renting one is very important for people. Why might this be the case? Do you think this is a positive or negative situation?
Student answer (Band 6.0)
In recent days, people all acroos the world are now focusing more on owing a home and not living on rent. There are numerous factors that contribute to this increasing trend, which I believe is a positive thing in a long term.
Nowadays, many countries are gowing through the economic crisis which has a devastating affect on people's life. People who lives in rented houses are more vulnerable class, because economic downfall hits them strongly. They do not have enough money at the end of the month because of spending large amount of money on paying rent of the house. So, many people are now focusing on buying their own houses to be able to survive these harsh conditions. This helps them to save money and utilize it in another expenses, such as children's education. For example, a man who have four children and owned a house is more able to provide better education as compared to the one who lives in a rented house.
Moreover, In this world where anxiety and depression have become a serious health issues, owning a house also gives a person a sense of peace or satisfaction, because home is one of the basic needs of the human being. Many people who lived on rented houses face the problem regarding changing the house on and off because of different problems like; unnecessary rise on rent and unsufficient facilities. This leads towards the frustration and hypertension. For instance, people live in a rented house have so many tensions regarding the problems due to the poor condition of the house beacuse of extensive renting, as compared to those who have their own houses.
In conclusion, although different factors including economic crisis contribute to developing a mindset of owing house, this facilitates people in long term, such as saving money and improving health condition.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response successfully addresses all parts of the task. The candidate considers why homeownership is important in certain countries—mentioning economic crisis, vulnerability of renters, and the psychological benefits of stability—and clearly states their position that this is a positive development in the long term. Ideas are extended and supported with examples, such as comparing a man with four children owning a home versus renting. While some arguments are slightly general, the core requirements of the prompt are fully covered. The response aligns well with the Band 7 descriptor for addressing all parts of the task with a clear position and well-developed ideas.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay presents a clear logical organisation and progression throughout. Information and ideas are coherently structured with an introduction, body paragraphs addressing distinct points (economic factors and psychological/living conditions), and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately. Cohesive devices are employed to connect ideas, such as 'Moreover', 'For instance', and 'In conclusion'. However, referencing and transitional links are occasionally mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'leading towards the frustration', which holds the score at Band 6.0 rather than higher.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common items such as 'vulnerable class', 'economic downfall', 'devastating affect', and 'psychological satisfaction'. However, there are notable spelling errors and word choice inaccuracies throughout the text, including 'acroos' for across, 'owing' for owning, 'gowing' for growing, 'affect' for effect, 'lives' for live, and 'unsufficient' for insufficient. These errors do not impede communication, as the meaning remains clear, but they prevent the response from achieving a Band 7.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The writer demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, incorporating relative clauses and conditional comparisons. There are, however, frequent grammatical errors and punctuation lapses, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('People who lives', 'people live in a rented house have'), incorrect preposition use ('spent large amount of money on paying rent of the house'), and spelling of auxiliary forms. Although these errors are noticeable and detract from the overall polish, the complex structures are generally understandable, fitting the Band 6 descriptor where some errors in grammar persist without impeding communication.
