IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In some countries owning a home rather than renting one is very important for people. Why might this be the case? Do you think this is a positive or negative situation?
Student answer (Band 5.5)
In todays world, owning a house is a blessing and privilege not everyone have, in various countries, having a complete possession of a house rather than mere renting is very important for indivisuals. One of the main reason behind this is that the sense of ownership makes people feel that they belong to that place. Having a own house gives residents a sense of security and belonging.Other reason could be that in some countries, there are diffirent rules and regulation for renting houses, some countires offer an easy processing of depositing, maintaince, security fees and apartment rents. In contrast, some countries have strict requirements, rents are not affordable so in such cases people tend to prefer owning house through long term saving rather than renting.
Humans value things more when they have a complete possession of it, wether its house or car or any other property. This situation has positive aspect where people who want to feel secure, prevent the hassle of moving from one place to another and build a warm safe space for their family, owning house has huge benefit for suc people. In addition, this reduce the worries of damaging the property or paying hefty sums to owner in case of mishapps.
In contrast, for indivuals who are fond of travelling or move continuosly for their jobs or business, owning a house could be disadvantage for them, for instance they are away of home for months for their commitments but still bound to pay for the bills, maintaince and other neccessaties.
In my opinion, owning a house is beneficial in modern world where things are evolving constantly and sometimes when a person is able to proceed with the pace of world, one should have a home as his safe space free of worries. In my country, people own house as their assests, which they could sell out at time of need. So i believe owning a house is essential for people where things work according to their prefernces and happiness.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The student addresses all parts of the task, explaining why homeownership is valued (such as a sense of security, belonging, and avoiding the hassle of moving) and clearly stating their position that the situation is predominantly positive. In the first body paragraph, the writer mentions that 'in some countries, there are diffirent rules and regulation for renting houses' which slightly confuses the distinction between renting and owning, but the overarching ideas remain relevant. The arguments are extended and supported with examples, such as mentioning houses acting as financial assets that people can sell in times of need. The response fulfills the requirements of Task 2 well, aligning with the Band 6.5 to 7.0 descriptors by presenting a clear position and well-developed ideas, though minor generalisations exist.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay demonstrates a clear overall progression with logical organisation. Ideas are generally grouped appropriately into paragraphs addressing reasons for owning a home, positive aspects, negative aspects, and a personal conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'In contrast', 'In addition', and 'for instance' are used to connect ideas, although some transitions feel slightly mechanical or repetitive, such as starting multiple sentences and paragraphs similarly. Paragraphing is used, though the body paragraphs could be more balanced in length. Referencing is mostly clear, though occasional clunky sentence structures disrupt the smooth flow of reading. Overall, cohesion is managed adequately, fitting the Band 6 descriptors.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common lexical items such as 'privilege', 'possession', 'mishapps', and 'assets'. However, there are noticeable spelling errors ('todays', 'indivisuals', 'diffirent', 'maintaince', 'wether', 'continuosly', 'neccessaties', 'assests') and occasional word choice inaccuracies ('complete possession of a house' rather than outright ownership). While these errors do not severely impede communication, they recur frequently enough to prevent the score from reaching a higher band. The lexical range is minimally sufficient to convey the intended meaning, matching the Band 6 descriptors.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, using relative clauses and conditional ideas. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('not everyone have'), missing articles ('owning house', 'owning a house could be disadvantage'), and run-on sentences or comma splices (e.g., 'In todays world, owning a house is a blessing and privilege not everyone have, in various countries...'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with apostrophes ('todays') and capitalization ('i'). Although the meaning remains understandable, the density of grammatical errors places this response firmly in the Band 5.5 to 6.0 range.
