In some countries owning a home rather than renting one is very important for people. Why might this be the case? Do you think this is a positive or negative situation?

Student answer (Band 5.5)

Real estate property such as own home is vital for every individual also it is provide great flexibility to the peoples. However, some sovereign nation think that, owing a home isgood rather than renting, whereas, others nation feels that, renting house is good approach. In My opinion, this development has both positive and negative aspects.

One reason why people prefer to own a home is security. When people have their own house, they do not have to worry about landlords increasing the rent or asking them to leave. They can also make changes to their property without asking for permission. Another important reason is that a house can be a good investment. Property prices may increase over time, so owners can sell their houses in the future and make a profit. In addition,

I believe this is mostly a positive development. A person who owns a house can have a stable place to live and may have a valuable asset for the future. However, buying a house can be very expensive, and some people may have to take large loans. This can cause financial stress if they cannot afford their monthly payments.

In conclusion, people prefer owning homes because of security, stability and financial benefits. Although purchasing a house can be expensive, I believe that home ownership is generally beneficial.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt, discussing why home ownership is important (security, investment) and evaluating whether this is positive or negative. However, the position is slightly obscured in the introduction due to clunky phrasing, and the development is constrained by the overall length. Crucially, the length check notes that the response contains only 213 words, failing to meet the minimum requirement of 250 words. This under-length impacts the full development of ideas, capping the task achievement score. To improve, the student must expand their supporting arguments with more detailed explanations or examples and ensure they meet the word count.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay displays a generally coherent overall arrangement with a logical progression of ideas. Paragraphing is utilised, separating the introduction, reasons for owning a home, the evaluation of the situation, and the conclusion. However, cohesive devices are at times basic or mechanical, and mechanical errors such as missing spaces after punctuation marks (e.g., 'flexibility to the peoples. However, some') detract from the flow. Referencing is mostly clear, but transitions between paragraphs could be smoother to establish a more sophisticated logical progression. Overall, the structural framework is acceptable, but the management of cohesive ties requires greater precision to reach a higher band.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The student demonstrates an adequate vocabulary for the task, successfully using terms such as 'security', 'investment', 'profit', and 'financial stress'. However, there are noticeable word choice and collocation errors, such as 'Real estate property such as own home' instead of 'owning a home', and 'peoples' instead of 'people'. Additionally, spelling and spacing issues, like 'isgood' and 'others nation', indicate a lack of careful proofreading. While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the core ideas, the presence of frequent basic errors and a limited range of less common lexical items restricts the score to a 5.5.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, incorporating clauses with 'when' and 'because'. However, grammatical accuracy is inconsistent. There are frequent errors in punctuation, articles, and word forms, such as 'own home', 'some sovereign nation think that, owing a home isgood', and comma splices or missing spaces throughout the opening paragraph. Although the second body paragraph shows slightly better control with sentences like 'When people have their own house, they do not have to worry...', the overall density of structural and punctuation errors causes some difficulty for the reader and prevents the essay from achieving a higher band.
