IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In some countries owning a home rather than renting one is very important for people. Why might this be the case? Do you think this is a positive or negative situation?
Student answer (Band 4.0)
In some countries, People prefer owning a house than renting one, it is important for them. In this situation, they believe when owning a home even it is expensive help to live peacefully life due to the home is the identity of themselves. it is the first important thing to live comfortable and to gain the work-life balance. People when they are buying home they believe the second things for example cars, jobs, and life stuffs are slowely coming step by step. In other hand, people who rent their houses, they have another idea about this situation. In simple words, they just live their life without thinking about the future and what life brings to them. Don't forget people who are poor they don't have money to owning a house so they suffered just for renting one.
In my opinion, I think this situation is both positive and negative depends in every one. For me too i want to owning a house even it took time for it.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response attempts to address both parts of the prompt, discussing why homeownership is important and giving a personal view on whether it is a positive or negative situation. However, the ideas are severely underdeveloped and lack sufficient supporting detail. Furthermore, the length requirement has not been met, as the response contains only 168 words against the required minimum of 250 words. This under-length severely limits the writer's ability to fully develop a well-supported position. Phrases like 'they just live their life without thinking about the future' generalize renters broadly and lack nuance. Because of the incomplete task fulfillment due to the word count constraint and limited idea development, this response fits best within the band 4 descriptors.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0
The text is divided into two short paragraphs, but the overall structure lacks logical progression and clear paragraphing conventions for an academic essay. There is an over-reliance on basic cohesive devices, and some transitions are awkward or absent, such as 'In other hand' instead of 'On the other hand'. Referencing is sometimes unclear, particularly with pronouns like 'it' in 'when owning a home even it is expensive help to live peacefully life due to the home is the identity of themselves'. The information is presented rather disjointly, making it difficult for the reader to follow a cohesive line of argumentation. This falls squarely into the band 4 category due to the lack of clear overall organisation and faulty cohesion.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.0
The vocabulary used is very basic and repetitive, with frequent word-choice errors. Examples include 'peacefully life' instead of 'peaceful life', 'life stuffs' instead of 'personal belongings or material possessions', and 'to owning a house' instead of 'to own a house'. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary items like 'work-life balance' and 'identity', but these are used incorrectly or awkwardly within the sentence structures. Spelling errors and awkward collocations occur frequently, constraining communication and pointing towards a band 4 level for lexical resource.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0
The response demonstrates a very limited range of grammatical structures. Most sentences are simple or poorly constructed complex sentences with frequent errors that distort meaning. Examples of grammatical errors include 'People prefer owning a house than renting one' (incorrect preposition use), 'when owning a home even it is expensive help to live' (tangled clause structure with missing subjects and incorrect verb forms), and 'depends in every one' instead of 'depends on everyone'. Punctuation is also weak, marked by run-on sentences and comma splices. Due to the high frequency of basic grammatical errors and limited structure variety, this warrants a band 4.
