Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response successfully addresses all parts of the prompt by explaining why homeownership is important and giving a clear opinion that this is a positive situation. The student presents relevant ideas, such as financial savings, property appreciation, and the freedom to modify the home, which are supported by explanations. For instance, the text notes that renters spend a significant portion of their salary on rent, whereas owners build equity and enjoy gardening or alterations. However, some ideas are slightly repetitive or under-developed, preventing a higher band. Overall, the task is answered satisfactorily, establishing a clear position throughout the essay.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is utilized, and cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Moreover', and 'To conclude that' are employed to guide the reader through the arguments. Nevertheless, cohesion is at times faulty or mechanical, and referencing is occasionally unclear, such as 'While the population whom live on renting they face several restrictions'. The progression of ideas is generally logical, but sentence-level transitions and clause connections could be smoother and more precise to achieve a higher score.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, attempting some less common items such as 'financial stability', 'property appreciation', and 'enviromental condition'. However, there are noticeable lexical errors, awkward word choices, and morphological inaccuracies throughout the text, such as 'prefers to owning', 'mor beneficiary', 'have on renting', and 'oppertunities'. Spelling mistakes also occur, such as 'faciliate', 'benificiaries', and 'enviromental'. These inaccuracies do not entirely impede communication, but they restrict the lexical score to the band 5.0 range, as the range and precision remain limited.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some variety in structure. However, grammatical accuracy is weak, with frequent errors in verb forms, prepositions, articles, and subject-verb agreement. Examples include 'people prefers to owning', 'The people who lives on renting have to spent', 'people who have their own residency they have', and 'population whom live on renting they face'. These recurring structural errors and faulty complex sentence patterns frequently cause difficulty for the reader, placing the response firmly in the band 5 category for grammar.
