IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In some countries owning a home rather than renting one is very important for people. Why might this be the case? Do you think this is a positive or negative situation?
Student answer (Band 5.5)
Owning a own house is actually very significant for most of the people of some countries but many people aslo prefer renting one because of the likings or jobs etc.
First of all, I think having a own house is blessing because you are not someone who is having trouble of rents kinds of things. you can decorate your home by yourself you can live there and spent your whole life or sell that house for any purpose like if need money for business or for anything like you want a new home so you can just sell that house and add little more money in it and buy the bigger one. However some people have thought that owning own home is not necessary because it require maximum money to buy a home so they prefer rented ones both have different thoughts and opinions.
Futhermore renting homes are like your are living in someone elses property so you are not bearing taxes but for some people own a house is a big win in life like many people think if you have your own house you win in life because it that kind of blessing.
In my opinion, its definitely an advantage that if you have your own house you are out of troubles you can rent it out and make money you can live there as you want so i am in those kind of people who think own home is very important and its a initiative towards your success but if you are struggling with financial issues than we can say rented houses are aslo important for those kind of people or if you are not in your city so you can also prefer renting one rather than owning one.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses both parts of the prompt by explaining why home ownership is important and offering an opinion on whether this is a positive or negative situation. The writer presents a clear position throughout the essay, arguing that home ownership is largely a positive blessing and an initiative towards success, while acknowledging exceptions such as financial struggles or job relocation. However, the ideas are somewhat limited and lack deep extension, often repeating basic notions about avoiding rent and gaining financial security. This performance aligns best with the Band 6 descriptor, where all parts of the task are addressed, but some ideas remain under-developed.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a discernible introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. However, paragraphing is somewhat problematic; the second body paragraph is quite brief and blends ideas awkwardly, and the transitions between paragraphs are frequently mechanical or repetitive, utilizing phrases like 'First of all,' 'Futhermore,' and 'In my opinion.' Referencing can also be unclear, such as the ambiguous pronoun use in phrases like 'because it that kind of blessing.' While the logical progression is maintained well enough to understand the writer's stance, the cohesion faults place this response firmly in the Band 5 to Band 6 range.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully communicating everyday concepts related to housing, renting, and financial issues. There are numerous word-choice and collocation errors, such as writing 'owning a own house' instead of 'owning one's own house' and using 'likings' instead of 'preferences'. Spelling errors also appear, including 'aslo' instead of 'also' and 'Futhermore'. While uncommon lexical items are attempted, inaccuracies in spelling and word formation are noticeable and occasionally detract from the reading experience, which fits the Band 5 descriptor.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some ability to link clauses with conjunctions and relative pronouns. However, control over sentence structure is weak, leading to run-on sentences lacking appropriate punctuation, such as the overly long final sentence in the conclusion. Frequent grammatical errors occur, including tense inconsistencies, missing prepositions, and incorrect article usage (e.g., 'renting homes are like your are living'). These errors frequently cause difficulty for the reader, matching the Band 5 descriptors where attempts at complex sentences are often faulty.
