Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response attempts to address both parts of the prompt, discussing why homeownership is important and providing a personal opinion that it is a positive situation. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited and repetitive, with points such as security and investment listed rather than fully extended. Furthermore, the response suffers from a length penalty, as it falls short of the mandatory 250-word minimum at 235 words. Although the position is clear, the lack of sufficient word count and the somewhat brief treatment of the second part of the prompt prevent the score from reaching a higher band. To improve, the writer must ensure the word count exceeds 250 words and expand further on their main arguments with more detailed elaboration and examples.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The text is organized into four paragraphs: an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a brief conclusion. However, overall progression is hindered by poor paragraphing choices and a lack of smooth transitions. The first body paragraph crams multiple distinct ideas—such as dreams, stability, safety, decoration freedom, and investment—into a single, dense block of text without adequate cohesive devices. Additionally, referencing is occasionally unclear, and personal anecdotes like 'my khala living in rent house' are introduced abruptly without clear signposting. While basic cohesive devices are attempted, their usage is often mechanical or inaccurate, resulting in a somewhat disjointed flow that impacts the overall coherence of the essay.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is relatively basic and repetitive, with noticeable spelling and word-choice errors throughout the text. Examples include 'raher' instead of rather, 'personl' instead of personal, 'giscuss' instead of discuss, 'sucess' instead of success, 'ristriction' instead of restriction, and 'socities' instead of societies. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary such as 'milestone' and 'investment', but the high frequency of spelling mistakes ('rased', 'thime', 'estabilish') and awkward phrasing ('landlord rase any issue in any time') restricts the lexical score. To achieve a higher band, the student needs to expand their vocabulary range, use precise collocations, and carefully proofread their writing to eliminate basic spelling errors.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The essay displays a very limited range of grammatical structures, relying heavily on simple sentences and frequent run-on constructions. There are numerous grammatical errors that affect the clarity of the text, such as missing articles ('owning home', 'is provide', 'It allow peole'), subject-verb agreement issues ('landlord rase', 'landlord unexpectedly inform'), and tense inconsistencies. Punctuation is also problematic, with missing spaces after periods and commas, as well as comma splices linking independent clauses. While some meaning is communicated, the high density of basic grammatical errors and the lack of complex, error-free sentences place this response firmly in the band 5 range.
