Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt by explaining why homeownership is important and giving a clear opinion that this is a positive situation. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited and repetitive. For instance, the reasons given for wanting to own a home—such as financial security, avoiding rent, and gaining social status—are mentioned but lack deep elaboration or concrete examples. The student also confuses the stance slightly in the introduction by saying "I agree with this writer statement," which is typical of Task 1 prompts rather than Task 2 opinion essays. Nevertheless, a clear overall position is maintained throughout the text, meeting the basic requirements for a Band 5.5 to 6.0, ultimately fitting comfortably into Band 5.5 due to the under-developed nature of some arguments.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The essay demonstrates an overall logical arrangement with distinct paragraphs, attempting to structure the introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion separately. However, the progression of ideas is frequently disrupted by poor cohesive devices and abrupt transitions, such as "On the other side people think" and "There are negligible issue to have own house." Paragraphing is also slightly unconventional, with some very short paragraphs that lack internal cohesion. Referencing is occasionally unclear, and repetitive sentence openings create a mechanical feel. While the reader can follow the main line of argument, the management of cohesive devices is inadequate and inaccurate at times, placing the response firmly at Band 5.0.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The student uses a limited but minimally adequate range of vocabulary suitable for discussing the topic of housing, utilizing words such as "financially," "installment," "maintenance," and "investment." However, there are noticeable lexical errors and awkward word choices throughout the text, such as "primary need for human being," "renting house" instead of "rented house," and "priority disturbance." Spelling and word-form errors are also present, such as "plane" instead of "plan" and "tension free life." These errors do not completely obscure meaning, but they cause some difficulty for the reader and reflect a restricted lexical repertoire, aligning with a Band 5.0 level.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response displays a very limited range of grammatical structures, relying heavily on simple sentences and basic clause patterns. Attempts at complex structures are frequently faulty, characterized by missing articles, incorrect prepositions, and severe subject-verb agreement issues (e.g., "Over population is major reason to buy own house is more important," "there nothing to worry," and "owning house it is not just primary need"). Punctuation is also problematic, with incorrect capitalization and run-on sentences. Frequent errors cause considerable difficulty for the reader and impede fluent communication, demonstrating characteristics typical of a Band 4.5 to 5.0 descriptor. A score of 4.5 is warranted due to the high density of basic grammatical errors.
