IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In some countries owning a home rather than renting one is very important for people. Why might this be the case? Do you think this is a positive or negative situation?
Student answer (Band 4.5)
As the few countries people renting the home rather buying it
As in this era to buying the house is going day by day more expensive as compare to renting. Now a days, everyone managing their home according to their daily wages. the wages is not enough to save for everything such as, daily neccesary things, somtimes holiday trips, daily lifestyle and so on.
If we talking for some random ratio of daily update regarding the wages spend money special for buy the home is the very big decision. The normal person always think twice or more for this but on the other side renting the home or the apartment is much easier as their many reasons, fulfil their basic needs, not that much stress.
Now we think for this negative or the positive situation i would like to express in the negative there are many reasons to buying the house getting the stress to pay the morgage money, buy every little things for the home, if somthing broken it took ages for the fixing that as compare to renting the home you being careful, paying rent is not that big amount paying to compare the morgage money. and the good thing to renting the home is sometimes people not be stable at one place while renting so on the various places the going to explore as much they can and move to the other new place. while on permanet on plce is hard to go and planning to be going thei.
However, is just summaries that owing a house or renting a home they have their own pros and cons as in my perspective i would like to renting the home is the good thought because you going to do many thing saving money as compare to the owing the home. which we earlier talk about exploring the new place, to rather stick on one permanet place.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt, exploring reasons why homeownership is important and giving a personal perspective on whether this is a positive or negative situation. However, the development of ideas is limited and at times unclear due to expression issues. For instance, the writer mentions reasons for renting such as 'fulfil their basic needs' and 'not that much stress', but these points lack full extension and logical support. The position is discernible—arguing that renting is preferable due to flexibility and lower financial stress—yet the overall task fulfillment suffers from weak elaboration and tangential arguments. It aligns closely with Band 5 descriptors.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The essay displays some general organisation, attempting to divide ideas into introductory, body, and concluding sections. However, there is a distinct lack of clear overall progression and logical linking between sentences and paragraphs. Cohesive devices are either missing, inadequate, or misused, such as the abrupt transitions ('Now a days', 'If we talking for some random ratio', 'Now we think for this negative'). Paragraphing is rudimentary, and referencing is frequently unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the train of thought. This fits the profile of a Band 4.5 to 5.0 performance, earning a solid Band 5.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.0
The vocabulary used is basic, repetitive, and limited in range. The student relies heavily on simple terms like 'home', 'buying', 'renting', 'money', and 'stress'. There are noticeable lexical errors and awkward word choices throughout the text, such as 'daily neccesary things', 'spend money special for buy the home', 'somthing broken it took ages for the fixing', and 'owing a house' (confused with owning). These errors and limited vocabulary choices occasionally cause difficulty for the reader and reflect Band 4 vocabulary characteristics.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.0
The grammatical structure is severely limited and inaccurate. The response contains a high frequency of grammatical errors, including missing verbs, incorrect preposition usage, and faulty clause structures (e.g., 'As the few countries people renting the home rather buying it', 'everyone managing their home', 'if somthing broken it took ages for the fixing'). Complex sentences are attempted but are consistently faulty. Errors are so pervasive that they frequently distort meaning and impede communication, which aligns with the descriptor for Band 4.
