Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

The student attempts to address both parts of the prompt, discussing why home ownership is important and giving a personal view on whether it is positive. However, the response is severely underdeveloped and incomplete, ending abruptly mid-sentence ('for instance'). Furthermore, the length requirement of at least 250 words has not been met, as the essay contains only 124 words. Due to the significant under-length and lack of full development for the ideas presented, the response falls into the Band 4 category for Task Achievement.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The essay displays some basic attempts at organisation, using transition words like 'fristly' and 'for example' to introduce points. However, paragraphing is somewhat erratic and the text breaks off prematurely, preventing a clear overall progression. Referencing and cohesive devices are rudimentary, and the abrupt ending disrupts the logical flow of the writing. These features align best with the Band 5 descriptors.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is generally basic and repetitive, featuring words like 'house', 'family', and 'investment'. There are noticeable spelling and word choice errors throughout the text, such as 'soical' instead of social, 'finicially' instead of financially, 'postive dovelopment' instead of positive development, and 'verious' instead of various. These errors and the limited range of vocabulary restrict the score to Band 5.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.0

The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but control is weak. There are frequent errors in punctuation, capitalization, and grammar, such as missing capital letters at the beginning of sentences ('in many countries...'), incorrect pronoun use ('train his children'), and missing verb agreement. Sentence structures are often awkward or incomplete, particularly near the end of the response. These issues place the grammatical performance at Band 4.
