In some countries owning a home rather than renting one is very important for people. Why might this be the case? Do you think this is a positive or negative situation?
Student answer (Band 5.5)
In many nations, houseownership is highly valued rather than renting appertment. It is because owning a property ragarded as stable asset. Although, ownership comes with some drawbacks, it is very positive phenomena.
The main reason why people value house ownership is in most of the countires, peoples' reputation is tied with homeownership. The house owners are regarded as highly repected person in the soceity in many areas. Owning property even can affect the marrage of their children because it is an important parameter for matchmacking in this culture. People, therefore spends lifesavings to buy a house before or right after retirement. Property ownership alse seen as a stable asset. For instance, in Bangladesh, people often buy house with their pension as an investment for their retirement life and for their childrens' marraige.
Secondly, home ownership provides high flexibilty to the owner of the house. The owner can easily reconstruct the house or replace the interior according to their taste. It provides freedom of living. In contrast, the rented house has its own terms and conditions set by the landlord, and the poeple living there have to obide by the rules. For example, in Bangladesh, the most of the landlords do not allow the renters to enter the building after 12 pm. It creates a mental dissatisfection to the people.
However, it comes with a major drawback. The increasing price is creating extra stress to the earning person of the family. For a clear example, Americans often commit to a 30 year mortgage in their middle age to buy a house. This life-long loans creats extra burden.
I conclusion, the house ownership is one of the most stable investment. It creats a economical safegaurde for the owner from the flactuating economy, and also provides freedome of living. In my oppinion, it is a positive phenomena considering the fact that it sometimes can creat unimaginable burden for the poeple.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The student addresses all parts of the task by exploring the reasons why homeownership is valued—such as social reputation and investment security—and clearly stating their position that it is a positive phenomenon, despite drawbacks. Ideas are generally well-developed and supported with relevant examples, such as referencing cultural practices in Bangladesh and mortgages in America. However, there is a tendency to over-generalise in places, and some arguments could have been extended further. The response meets all task requirements thoroughly, earning a solid Band 6.5.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response features a clear overall arrangement with logical paragraphing, separating the introduction, reasons, drawbacks, and conclusion. Cohesive devices are used to signal progression, such as 'The main reason', 'Secondly', and 'However'. Nevertheless, cohesion is sometimes faulty or mechanical, and referencing is not always completely clear, seen in abrupt transitions and minor referencing slips like 'poeple living there have to obide by the rules'. Paragraphs are generally well-constructed, but the introduction and conclusion are slightly brief. Overall, the organizational structure is coherent and meets the requirements of Band 6.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common items such as 'reputation', 'investment', and 'flexibility'. However, there are notable spelling and word-choice errors throughout the text, including 'appertment' instead of apartment, 'ragarded' instead of regarded, 'marrage' instead of marriage, 'obide' instead of abide, and 'flactuating' instead of fluctuating. While these errors do not severely impede communication, they restrict the score. The lexical resource is sufficient for a Band 6.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writer employs a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating attempts at conditional and relative clauses (e.g., 'Although, ownership comes with some drawbacks, it is very positive phenomena'). However, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with missing articles ('is very positive phenomena', 'with pension'), incorrect prepositions ('spends lifesavings'), and subject-verb agreement issues ('loans creats'). Punctuation and spelling errors also occur regularly. Because these errors do not impede overall comprehension, the performance aligns well with the Band 5.5 descriptors.
