IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In some countries owning a home rather than renting one is very important for people. Why might this be the case? Do you think this is a positive or negative situation?
Student answer (Band 5.5)
In many nation, a number of individuals prefer to live in their own homes rather than rented one. There are several reasons for this, such as a sense of happieness, security and the fact is considered as the positive trend.
On the one hand, there is no doubt that people are living in their own homes because it gives a sense os security and safety. Most of the people work hard to buy their own property, the main reason for having a property that individuals do not have to worry about the rent every month. For example, according to a survey 60% of people are living in their own property rather than spending money on the rented property.
On the other hand, I believe this a positive trend because if people are buying their own property so ultimately they contributing to their country's development or economy through taxes. For instance, when individual buy a house for that person has give some taxes or other extra fees to the government, which can help in the development of the country to some extent. In addition, over 30% of the people are in depression because they cannot afford to pay rent on time, due to which may attempt sucide because of not paying the rent, andthis percentage is increasing day by day.
In conclusion, I firmly believe that this is a positive trend because if person has it's own property so it will make him feel stress free and also keep tension free about the furture.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses both parts of the prompt, discussing why homeownership is important (security, avoiding monthly rent worries) and presenting a clear position that this is a positive trend due to economic contributions and reduced stress. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited and relies on sweeping or sensationalist claims, such as stating that people may attempt suicide over rent payments. While all parts of the task are addressed, the support lacks fully developed academic depth. This places the response in Band 5.0 to 6.0 territory; because the ideas are relevant and a clear position is maintained throughout, a Band 6.0 is appropriate.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The essay has a coherent overall arrangement with a discernible introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate different points, such as the reasons for owning a home in paragraph two and the opinion on whether it is positive in paragraph three. However, cohesion is at times faulty, mechanical, or awkward, seen in phrases like 'the fact is considered as the positive trend' and run-on structures like 'for example, according to a survey 60% of people are living in their own property rather than spending money on the rented property.' Referencing and logical connectors could be managed more smoothly. This performance aligns well with the Band 5.5 to 6.0 descriptors.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as 'development', 'economy', and 'survey'. However, there are notable spelling errors ('happieness', 'sucide', 'furture'), grammatical form errors ('In many nation', 'rented one'), and slight inaccuracies in word choice and collocation ('for that person has give some taxes'). These errors do not heavily impede communication, but they restrict the lexical score. The appropriate band level for this combination of adequate range and noticeable lexical inaccuracies is Band 5.5.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writing demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, though attempts at complex structures frequently contain grammatical errors or awkward phrasing, such as 'if people are buying their own property so ultimately they contributing to their country's development' and 'if person has it's own property so it will make him feel stress free'. Punctuation is occasionally missing or misplaced, leading to run-on sentences. While simple sentences are generally understandable, the frequency of grammatical inaccuracies in complex structures prevents the essay from reaching Band 6.0, making Band 5.0 the most accurate reflection of the current control.
