IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In some countries owning a home rather than renting one is very important for people. Why might this be the case? Do you think this is a positive or negative situation?
Student answer (Band 5.5)
House is a place which gives sense of piece and security to every individual, whether it is rented or personal apartment. Meanwhile, in few nations people prefer to purchase their own apartment istead of rental one. I opine that it is a constructive context and this essay will discuss the significant reasons behind this trend.
To embark upon, it helps to provide the financial security. To explain it, instead of paying high rents, it is more beneficial to built our own house and it saves lots of money. It help people to invest money in their own propery. Moreover, the value of property may increase over time, making it a useful assert for future. For instance, homeowners can sell property later or pass to their childrens. Therfore owning a home provide the greater future security.
Nevertheless, i accord that it is positive scenario due to several factors. The most important one is that having own house provide the greater security. It means, people who own a house do don't need any permissions to make changes in living areas. In their own home they can do anything accordig to their own prefercences. The another point that taken into consideration is that, it provide more future stability. People living on rented houses have always worried about their future stay but on the other hand, if they have their personal shelter they are freely about the problems for migrate in future time.
In conclusion, although vast majority of people stay in rented house due to personal problems or interset, but from my perspective havig their own house is positive situation due to providing security or greater future stability.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt by explaining why homeownership is valued and offering a clear stance that this is a positive situation. The main ideas are relevant, including financial security, asset accumulation, and personal freedom. However, some ideas are repetitive, particularly the discussion on security and freedom, which appears in both body paragraphs. Furthermore, the reasoning tends to be somewhat generalized and lacks deeper extension. For instance, the mention of passing property to children is a good point, but it is not fully expanded. Despite these minor limitations in development, the position is clear throughout, and all core parts of the prompt are satisfactorily covered, aligning well with the Band 6.5 to 7.0 descriptors. A band score of 6.5 is awarded.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The essay demonstrates a clear overall progression and is divided into logical paragraphs, including an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices are employed, such as 'To embark upon', 'Moreover', and 'Nevertheless', though some of these transitional phrases are used somewhat awkwardly or non-standardly, such as 'To embark upon' instead of 'To begin with'. Referencing is generally functional, but there are instances where cohesion feels slightly mechanical due to repetitive structures and phrasing. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct points, yet the internal flow within paragraphs is occasionally disrupted by minor referencing inaccuracies. Overall, the organizational structure meets the criteria for Band 6.0.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common lexical items such as 'financial security', 'asset', and 'preferences'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word-choice errors throughout the text, including 'piece' instead of 'peace', 'istead' instead of 'instead', 'propery' instead of 'property', 'assert' instead of 'asset', 'childrens' instead of 'children', 'Therfore' instead of 'Therefore', 'accordig' instead of 'according', 'prefercences' instead of 'preferences', and 'havig' instead of 'having'. While these errors do not impede overall communication, their frequency prevents the score from reaching a higher band. The lexical control is indicative of a Band 5.5 performance.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The essay displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating an attempt at structures like conditional and relative clauses (e.g., 'people who own a house do don't need any permissions'). However, there are frequent grammatical errors and awkward phrasings, such as 'instead of paying high rents, it is more beneficial to built our own house' (incorrect verb form), 'do don't need' (double auxiliary verb), 'if they have their personal shelter they are freely about the problems' (incorrect adjective/preposition usage), and capitalization issues ('i accord'). Punctuation is generally acceptable, but grammatical inaccuracy is persistent enough to occasionally strain the reader, fitting the Band 5.5 descriptor.
