IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In some countries owning a home rather than renting one is very important for people. Why might this be the case? Do you think this is a positive or negative situation?
Student answer (Band 4.5)
It is an undeniable truth that in todays advanced era in many countries owning a home is nvery essential instead of renting. some time government force citizens to buy their home. I think that this is a mind stress for those who cant affort while we aslo fee from rent after buying our house.
On the one hand, there are several drawbacks if you cant affort buying hose. firstly its very very expensive for normal person to buy their own home.such as our relitives or colony individuals force us to buy own home in many countries if we are living at rent or not stable. as a result we feel shame aslo dont want to go want only for this that we are living at rent house.what other persons think about us. secondly some people buy their own home if they are not stable or not belong to a wealthy family just for showoff. for instance poor relatives lend a huge loan from a government or from their relatives to built home after that they dont return it and feel a lot of mental and physical stress which leads to societ attempt and their family member cant face or deal with police questioins.
On the other hand, there are some benefits of owning our house, firstly we feel stress free from rental amount or any type of payment. such as if we live in our personal home we feel free any time from heavy fee. we buy some thing different from this cost or save it. moreover we can manage it accoeding to our taste which colour or thing we think that is important we can implement on it. as an example if we want to decorate it for birthday party or any other event we can manage it according to our taste. furthermore we can sale it to a property dealer ore any invester if we need money urgent. for example if we want to study abroad we cant affort to pay a huge fee we sale our personl property and go any where without any difficulty.
In conclusion, its very important to own our house rather then living on a rent. I believe that ifv we afford to buy home its better and we will free from rental stress while if someone cant affort it then its better to live in a rental house

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt, exploring reasons why homeownership is important and discussing whether this is a positive or negative situation. A clear position is maintained throughout the essay. However, the ideas are somewhat limited and heavily reliant on over-generalised or extreme examples, such as social pressure leading to suicide attempts or families taking huge loans. While the writer attempts to present both sides, the explanation of why homeownership is culturally or economically important is somewhat superficial. Therefore, the response aligns best with Band 5.0.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The essay is divided into paragraphs, which helps organise the overall structure into an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. However, the progression of ideas within paragraphs is often disrupted by poor referencing and a lack of smooth transitions. Cohesive devices are used repetitively or inaccurately, such as starting multiple body sentences with 'firstly' or 'such as' in a mechanical manner. Pronoun referencing is frequently unclear, making it difficult to follow the logical flow at times. These features place the response firmly in the Band 5.0 category.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.0
The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, with frequent spelling mistakes throughout the text (e.g., 'todays', 'nvery', 'cant affort', 'aslo', 'relitives', 'colony', 'built', 'accoeding', 'sale'). While the student attempts some less common phrases like 'property dealer' and 'investor', the lexical range is narrow and minimally adequate for the task. Errors in word choice and spelling are noticeable and occasionally cause strain for the reader, matching the descriptors for Band 4.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.0
The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but control over grammar and punctuation is weak. There are persistent errors in basic grammatical structures, subject-verb agreement, and tense consistency (e.g., 'government force', 'we aslo fee from rent', 'we sale our personl property'). Punctuation is largely neglected, with run-on sentences and missing capitalisation. Frequent errors cause difficulty for the reader throughout the text, consistent with Band 4.0.
