Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
The response responds to the task only minimally and fails to meet the required 250-word minimum, falling significantly short at only 76 words. While the writer touches upon why homeownership is preferred in certain regions like the Asia-Pacific to avoid monthly rent tension, the ideas are presented in a very basic and tangential manner. The second part of the prompt regarding whether this is a positive or negative situation is only superficially addressed with a brief concluding remark about big cities. To improve toward higher bands, the writer must fully develop all parts of the prompt with well-supported arguments and extend the text to meet the word count.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
The information and ideas are not arranged coherently. The text consists of only two run-on sentences that lack proper structural organization and clear paragraphing. There is a lack of logical progression between the initial statement about homeownership and the contrasting point about big cities. Cohesive devices are either missing or misused, making it difficult to follow the flow of thought. To achieve a higher band, the writer needs to structure the essay into distinct paragraphs, use appropriate transitional markers such as 'furthermore' or 'on the other hand,' and ensure each sentence builds logically upon the previous one.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, utilizing everyday terms such as 'big tension,' 'run your dailyblife,' and 'worringless.' There are also word-choice and spelling errors, such as 'dailyblife' and 'worringless,' which strain the reader's understanding. The range of vocabulary is severely limited, restricting the writer's ability to discuss the topic with precision. To progress, the writer should build a broader academic vocabulary related to housing, finance, and urban living, while learning the correct collocations and word forms for terms like 'financial stress' and 'urban lifestyle.'
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The grammatical range is very limited, relying on overly long, run-on sentences with frequent errors that distort meaning, such as 'Owning home is best on the base of my opinion likely in asia pacific peoples are focus on owning...' There is a lack of control over basic sentence boundaries, punctuation, and subject-verb agreement. Complex sentence structures are attempted but are faulty and confusing. To move to a higher band, the writer must demonstrate control over simple and complex sentence forms, use correct punctuation to break up long clauses, and eliminate fundamental grammatical errors.
