IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In some countries owning a home rather than renting one is very important for people. Why might this be the case? Do you think this is a positive or negative situation?
Student answer (Band 5.0)
Many countries people around the world, believe that owning a home is much better than renting one.which has valueble point in this topic.I personally believe that it is a positive situation.thisd essay would argue about both side .
Firstly, owning a home is the most non nagotiateble thiing cause this is the basic human need. by owning home there is no worry about monthy payment which is very calming and relaxing thing.in own house people could decorate and design by there own wish.there is comforting and any convinient if the home is own.For example , our anchestors were never rent home caue in their era there was no renting system. This trend starts in just last few years because of the population.
renting a house could be helpful for those people who do not have money to buy a home. But by renting a home is a stressful situation because there is always a pressure for the payment. and also have boundaries so people can not decor or re-do anything to their renting house. moreover, there is always a pressure from the landlord for various reasons.which could lead to have too much pressure in daily life.
in conclusion, owning a home is better and important than renting one in some countries. Moreover,i believe it is a positive situation the reason behind this is owning a home is less stressful because there is no stress for the monthly payment.on the other hand , people who stayed at rented houses they always has a pressure for the payment also has so many boundries.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response addresses the prompt only partially, fulfilling the requirement to discuss why homeownership is important and whether it is a positive or negative situation, but the development of ideas remains limited and under-developed. For instance, the writer states that owning a home is a basic human need and mentions a lack of monthly payment anxiety, but these points are supported with superficial generalisations rather than deep exploration or convincing examples, such as the irrelevant historical claim that 'our anchestors were never rent home'. The position is stated—that homeownership is a positive situation—but the overall progression is hampered by a lack of elaboration. To reach higher bands, the writer must fully develop all parts of the task with extended explanations, detailed supporting points, and clear, relevant examples.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The text shows some organisation with basic paragraphing and general grouping of ideas, but there is no clear overall progression across the essay. While the writer attempts to introduce distinct sections, cohesive devices are frequently inadequate, inaccurate, or overused, leading to a mechanical feel. For example, sentences often begin abruptly without smooth transitions, and referencing is sometimes unclear, such as the sudden shift into discussing renting without a clear bridging sentence. Paragraphing is attempted, but internal logical links within paragraphs are weak, causing the argument to jump rather than flow naturally. To improve coherence and cohesion, the writer should use a wider and more accurate range of cohesive devices to guide the reader through the text, ensuring a logical relationship between sentences and paragraphs with a clear, overarching progression.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The vocabulary used is limited and minimally adequate for the task, featuring noticeable errors in word choice, spelling, and word form that occasionally cause difficulty for the reader. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary, but these attempts are often flawed, as seen in phrases like 'non nagotiateble thiing' and 'valueble point'. Spelling mistakes occur frequently throughout the response, including words like 'anchestors', 'convinient', and 'boundries'. Additionally, word choices lack precision, reflecting a basic and repetitive lexicon. To achieve a higher band, the writer needs to expand their vocabulary range, learn the correct spelling and collocation of less common words, and use terms with greater precision and stylistic awareness.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The writing displays a limited range of structures, relying mostly on simple sentences, while attempts at complex structures are often faulty and poorly controlled. Frequent grammatical errors are present throughout the text, including issues with subject-verb agreement, missing articles, incorrect prepositions, and pervasive punctuation errors such as missing spaces after periods and commas, as well as inappropriate capitalization at the start of sentences and clauses. For example, expressions like 'there is comforting and any convinient if the home is own' and 'people who stayed at rented houses they always has a pressure' demonstrate persistent structural inaccuracies that impede smooth reading and can cause difficulty for the reader. To move up, the writer must improve sentence variety, master basic grammatical patterns, and pay careful attention to punctuation and agreement.
