IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In some countries owning a home rather than renting one is very important for people. Why might this be the case? Do you think this is a positive or negative situation?
Student answer (Band 5.0)
In some nations owning a home rather than leaving in retenting home is paramount for residents. This essay Will discuss the benefits of own home compare to rented home.
I believe owning home is better than retenting one , because of your freedom in own house , let suppose you are allowed to make any structural changes, make interior design which suit your daily lifestyle and more comfortable to you. However in renting home tanants are not allowed to do any change in architecture without landlord,s permission.
Another important benefits is financial security however buying own,s home need huge amount of money but if someone's have enough mortgage i would definitely recommend. to buy a proper, Ultimately this property will lesser your burden of finical debt and you can receive a monthly rent for these property's
Meanwhile If someone belong to middle class family and your income is not sufficient to meet the monthly rent ,they will face trouble to bought routine requirements, like shopping, utility bills and groceries
In conclusion owning a home is better compared to renting home beause its give someone freedom and financial security in l9ng term however if someone is more flexible and had difficulty to buy its own home they can stay in rented home but own home is better idea compare to rented.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
The response addresses the task only partially. While it touches upon why homeownership is important (freedom and financial security) and gives an opinion, the ideas remain limited and under-developed. For instance, the point regarding renting causing trouble for middle-class families to buy routine requirements lacks clear elaboration and logical connection. Furthermore, the length requirement has not been met, as the response contains only 219 words, falling short of the 250-word minimum. To move to a higher level, the writer needs to extend and fully develop their arguments with relevant explanations and examples, while ensuring the word count requirement is satisfied.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
There is some organisation evident through basic paragraphing and overall intent to discuss benefits and personal views, but the text lacks a clear overall progression. Cohesive devices are sometimes inadequate, inaccurate, or repetitive, such as the frequent reliance on 'however' and basic conjunctions. Referencing is also occasionally unclear, as seen in phrases like 'these property's'. Paragraph divisions are attempted, but transitions between ideas feel abrupt and mechanical. To improve, the writer should use a wider variety of cohesive devices more accurately and ensure logical links between sentences and paragraphs create a smoother flow of ideas.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is limited and minimally adequate for the task. There are noticeable errors in word choice, form, and spelling throughout the text, such as 'leaving in retenting home', 'own home', 'tanants', 'finical', and 'l9ng term'. These errors cause some difficulty for the reader and reflect a restricted range of vocabulary. The writer attempts some less common items like 'structural changes' and 'financial security', but these are undermined by persistent lexical inaccuracies. To achieve a higher score, the writer must expand their vocabulary range, use word forms correctly, and pay closer attention to spelling and precise collocations.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response demonstrates a very limited range of sentence structures, relying mostly on simple sentences with frequent errors when complex forms are attempted. There are frequent grammatical errors involving subject-verb agreement, articles, plurals, and prepositions inside grammatical patterns, such as 'owning home is better than retenting one , because of your freedom in own house', 'buying own,s home need', and 'if someone belong'. Punctuation is also faulty in several places. These frequent errors can cause difficulty and strain for the reader. To progress, the writer needs to produce a greater variety of complex structures with improved accuracy across tenses, articles, and clause structures.
