IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In some countries owning a home rather than renting one is very important for people. Why might this be the case? Do you think this is a positive or negative situation?
Student answer (Band 5.5)
Residing in your own home compared with living in a rental home is remarkably significant for a various proportion of individuals in several countries. I believe this is generally a positive development because home ownership provide financial security and long-term stability to the residers.
To begin with financial security, your own house is the place where you feel comfortable and peaceful. There is not any worry of rental pays, as you are living in your house. Addtionally, you can do any kind of transformation
without seeking permission from anyone or having any worry in your mind that i have to pay the rent, since all the people want to set their houses in a more modern way, therefore house ownership is mandatory for all these cases. For instance, people who are dwelting in their houses can spend a handsome amount of money without any fear, and when they think they are getting bore from the ancient design, they can change everything because there is noone who can question from them, why you are doing this.
Ater that, Our own house provide a advantageous benefit about living in a place for decades. Basically, when someone buys the place for living, they are so satisfied because the person knows that their upcoming generations will live in this house. To illustrate this, In my country the planning to buy a house is like this that we have to buy a spacious house because our descendants can live here.
In conclusion, ownership of house gives a plethora of a benefits in term of spending money

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses the prompt by discussing why home ownership is important and stating a clear personal position that it is a positive development. However, the ideas are somewhat limited and under-developed. For example, while the writer mentions financial security and stability, the explanation tends to rely on repetitive notions of comfort and freedom from rent payments rather than exploring broader socioeconomic factors. The discussion on interior transformations and generational living is present, but it lacks extension and specific depth. To reach the next level, the writer needs to fully develop all parts of the task with more expansive supporting details and fully realized arguments.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
There is a basic level of organisation, with the essay divided into an introduction, body paragraphs, and a brief conclusion. However, there is a lack of clear overall progression, and the logical flow between sentences is occasionally hindered by abrupt transitions, such as 'Ater that, Our own house provide...'. Cohesive devices are sometimes inaccurate or repetitive, and referencing is occasionally unclear, as seen in pronoun usage. Paragraphing is attempted, but the concluding paragraph is notably truncated. To improve, the writer should ensure a smoother progression of ideas and use a wider, more accurate range of cohesive devices to connect sentences and paragraphs logically.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary range used is limited and barely adequate for the task. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary, such as 'transformation', 'generations', and 'spacious', but this is accompanied by noticeable errors in word choice, collocation, and word formation, including phrases like 'rental pays', 'dwelting', and 'getting bore'. Additionally, there are spelling errors such as 'Addtionally', 'noone', and 'Ater'. These lexical limitations and errors occasionally cause some difficulty for the reader. To achieve a higher band, the student must expand their vocabulary range, improve collocation accuracy, and ensure correct word forms and spelling throughout the essay.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The text displays a limited range of sentence structures, relying heavily on simple sentences and basic complex forms. Attempts at complex sentences are frequently faulty, containing grammatical errors such as subject-verb agreement issues (e.g., 'home ownership provide', 'Our own house provide'), article omissions, and incorrect preposition use. Frequent errors are present across the text, which can cause difficulty for the reader and obscure meaning, such as in the clause 'why you are doing this'. To progress to a higher band, the writer needs to demonstrate a greater variety of complex structures with improved grammatical control and significantly fewer errors.
