IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In some countries owning a home rather than renting one is very important for people. Why might this be the case? Do you think this is a positive or negative situation?
Student answer (Band 5.0)
People living in some countries think that having a home is better than renting one. This is because of the high price if renting, in my opinion they are right owning a home is a negative situation
First, renting a home at in our day become expensive in the majority of countries because of the taxes of habitation and price of equipment and material used to built a home in case of point my own experience when i worked as a teacher in the university of Algiers which is far to my parent's home, i rented a home in the city centre no far to my work place i despens the half of my revenue to pay the owner of the home that i rented. So it is logical that most people prefer owning a home than renting it and spending their life paying for the owner.
However, this is a negative situation because is not avalable for all people to own a home.If everyone own a home, people living in other counties can't work out of their country because they won't be able to rent a home. So loosing a job because of this. For example students who didn't have a room in the city of the university will be not able to rent a home out side so they must go every day at their parent home and come back at the morning , this is not available for whom lives far to the university.
in conclusion, some people prefer owning a home than renting one, although this situation can affect negatively other people

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response addresses the two main parts of the prompt, discussing why homeownership is valued and stating a position that this is a negative situation. However, the ideas remain limited and under-developed. For instance, the reasoning about why homeownership might prevent people from working in other countries or studying away from home is unclear and lacks sufficient explanation or logical support. The writer's position is discernible, but the arguments are not fully extended, resulting in a partial treatment of the task.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
There is some basic organisation with a clear introduction and conclusion, but the response lacks overall progression and a smooth flow of ideas. Cohesive devices are used inadequately or repetitively, such as the frequent reliance on simple conjunctions and transitional phrases like 'First' and 'However'. Paragraphing is attempted, but internal cohesion within paragraphs is sometimes faulty, making it difficult for the reader to follow the logical development of arguments from one point to the next.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is limited and minimally adequate for the task. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary, such as 'habitation' and 'revenue', but these demonstrate noticeable errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'taxes of habitation' instead of property taxes, and 'despens' instead of spend. Spelling and morphological errors are present throughout the text, including 'avalable', 'loosing', and 'side', which cause some difficulty for the reader.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writer demonstrates a very limited range of structures, relying mostly on simple sentences and basic combinations. Attempts at complex sentences are often faulty, featuring frequent errors in punctuation, verb tenses, prepositions, and clause structures, such as 'renting a home at in our day become expensive' and 'If everyone own a home'. These frequent grammatical errors cause noticeable difficulty and strain for the reader throughout the response.
