IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In some countries owning a home rather than renting one is very important for people. Why might this be the case? Do you think this is a positive or negative situation?
Student answer (Band 5.5)
In some nations opting for ownership for residence is considered cruitial than renting for residence for locals. This decision resides on an intellectual's personal choice. As per my understanding I think it can be sometimes benficial but can also have some inverse effects.
Ownership of residential property is preffered in some states where people often believe it is vital to have which is highly popular with respect to leasing. Ownership brings with it leisures that a national enjoys which brings individuality, peace of mind, respect and accountability of space and time. Having a personal area makes an individual feels safe and secure which affects the mental states and reduces expenses. Ownership of a property enjoys all of this which comes under respect for oneself. if an individual owns a property which they reside in , they know well that there bread and butter will be inside the home, no one will be there to kick them out if lease not paid and this brings a peace by security. An evidence of this could be a survery that indicates that majority of people consider this important, if i talk about my personal approach I would also opt for geting a property to live in. Thus ownership brings accountability as well as security which is important.
As ownership can be expensive and many people can't affoard to get their names on property, which takes us to the other side of the debates that leasing is cruitial for homes.Ownership of residence brings with it this draw back of not being able to pay for. Day by day property rates are skyrocketing which is making it much more difficult to be accessible by younger generations accordinng to many online survey and reports it has been evident about the property rates growth at a hefty pace which makes ownership much more difficult which can make an individul feel lost. That is why renting holds immense importance in this scenario, which makes it easy, accessible as well as brings in support for locals who cant own. It is comparitively easy for individual to get a home on contract to stay and have an organized life and in the mean while can plan for thier ownership of a property in the future.
This statement of residence property ownership over leasing in my opinion is is very broad, while both brings with it positives and negatives. It can be sought out by personal preferences and future planning.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses the prompt by discussing why homeownership is important and whether it is a positive or negative situation, but the development of ideas remains limited and under-developed. While the writer touches on reasons for owning a home such as security and respect, and mentions drawbacks like rising property prices and affordability, the arguments tend to lack sufficient extension and support. The position is stated in the introduction, but the reasoning throughout the body paragraphs often feels repetitive and overly generalised. To move to a higher level, the writer needs to present fully developed ideas with clearer explanations and more substantial supporting examples rather than broad assertions.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
There is some organisation in the essay, with distinct paragraphs introducing different aspects of the topic, but there is no clear overall progression. The response features a basic introduction, two body paragraphs, and a brief conclusion, but the logical flow between sentences is occasionally disrupted by mechanical or repetitive cohesive devices. Referencing can be unclear at times, and transitions feel abrupt, such as the shift into the second body paragraph beginning with 'As ownership can be expensive'. To achieve a higher score, the writer must ensure a more logical flow of ideas from one paragraph to the next, using a wider and more natural range of cohesive devices without overusing repetitive transitional phrases.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is limited and barely adequate for the task, containing noticeable errors that cause some difficulty for the reader. There are frequent spelling mistakes, such as 'cruitial' instead of crucial, 'benficial', 'preffered', 'survery', 'geting', and 'affoard'. Additionally, word choice and collocations are often awkward or inaccurate, as seen in phrases like 'opt for ownership for residence', 'brings with it leisures', and 'bread and butter will be inside the home'. To improve in this area, the writer needs to expand their lexical range, pay closer attention to word forms and correct spellings, and use less common vocabulary with greater precision.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writer uses a limited range of sentence structures, and attempts at complex sentences are frequently faulty. There are persistent errors in grammar and punctuation throughout the text, including issues with subject-verb agreement, missing articles, incorrect prepositions, and run-on sentences. For example, expressions like 'As per my understanding I think' and 'Ownership of residence brings with it this draw back of not being able to pay for' demonstrate a lack of control over complex grammatical patterns. Frequent errors require the reader to occasionally pause or re-read segments to grasp the intended meaning. To reach the next level, the writer must incorporate a wider variety of error-free complex structures and improve overall control of basic grammatical rules.
