IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In some countries owning a home rather than renting one is very important for people. Why might this be the case? Do you think this is a positive or negative situation?
Student answer (Band 5.0)
In many countries people have their own houses for residents. However, in few states individuals prefer to have their own homes instead of renting. In this essay I will discuss both aspects and i will also give my opinion why I beleive owning a home is a positive situation.
One reason is that, people who have bought their own home may live peacfully and can design it according to their needs. Predominentaly, their can have beautifull memories with their children that they can preserve on that house for a lifetime. For example, Family can pass their house to their children by preserving their heritage and can maintain a strong connection with their ancesters.
On the other hand, If householdsdecide to stay in rental houses, they have to pay rent every month and sign contract with the owner they can't do any alteration in the house without permission. They may change their place residing after years.
I beleive that owning a home is important in which you can feel warm and enjoy your life with your love ones instead

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
The response addresses the prompt only partially, and the minimum word count requirement of 250 words is not met, as the essay is significantly shorter at 208 words. While the writer attempts to explain why owning a home is important and briefly touches upon whether this is positive or negative, the ideas remain limited and under-developed. For instance, the discussion on preserving heritage and passing houses to children is introduced but lacks sufficient expansion or concrete support. The position is stated but not fully sustained throughout the text.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The essay displays some basic organization, including an introduction and body paragraphs, but there is no clear overall progression of ideas. Cohesive devices are used in a somewhat mechanical and repetitive manner, such as 'One reason is that', 'Predominentaly', and 'On the other hand'. Paragraphing is attempted, but referencing is sometimes unclear, particularly with pronouns like 'that they can preserve on that house', which weakens the logical flow between sentences and paragraphs.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is limited and minimally adequate for the task. There are noticeable errors in word choice, word form, and spelling that occasionally cause difficulty for the reader, such as 'peacfully' instead of peacefully, 'Predominentaly' instead of predominantly, 'ancesters' instead of ancestors, and 'beleive'. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary, but these inaccuracies restrict the precision and flexibility of the lexical range.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response demonstrates a very limited range of structures, relying mostly on simple sentences with frequent attempts at complex sentences that are often faulty. There are frequent errors in grammar, punctuation, and article usage, such as 'individuals prefer to have their own homes', 'their can have beautifull memories', 'Family can pass', and 'If householdsdecide'. These frequent errors can cause some difficulty for the reader, though the core meaning usually remains decipherable.
