Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response addresses the prompt only partially, which places it at this level. While the writer attempts to answer both parts of the question by discussing why homeownership is important and whether this trend is positive or negative, the ideas remain limited and under-developed. For instance, the mention of a student going abroad or a trader moving for employment are abrupt examples that lack clear elaboration to fully support the argument. The position of the writer is somewhat unclear, as the text oscillates between supporting renting and owning without a cohesive stance. To improve, the writer needs to expand on their ideas with fully developed explanations and clear supporting examples rather than relying on brief, disconnected assertions.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
There is some basic organization evident through the use of paragraphing and transitional markers like 'Furthermore' and 'For instant', but the response lacks a clear overall progression. The logical flow is frequently disrupted by abrupt shifts in topic and repetitive phrasing, such as the repeated use of 'For instant' and 'such people'. Cohesive devices are often inadequate or inaccurate, resulting in a mechanical feel that impedes smooth reading. Additionally, referencing is occasionally unclear, making it difficult to track what pronouns like 'it' refer to. To move forward, the writer should focus on creating a smoother logical transition between sentences and paragraphs, utilizing a wider and more accurate variety of cohesive devices without over-relying on a few basic formulas.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The vocabulary used is limited and minimally adequate for the task. The writer relies on basic and repetitive terms such as 'own house', 'rent house', and 'important', and attempts to use less common vocabulary result in noticeable errors in word choice, form, and collocation, such as 'rent house', 'tarder' instead of trader, 'balnce' instead of balance, and 'buy house' instead of buying a house. These lexical inaccuracies and spelling errors cause some difficulty for the reader and obscure the precise meaning of the arguments. To achieve a higher score, the writer must expand their lexical repertoire, learning correct word forms, accurate collocations, and appropriate spelling to convey ideas with greater precision.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The text exhibits a very limited range of grammatical structures, with frequent reliance on basic sentence patterns. Attempts at complex sentences are frequently faulty, leading to frequent errors that cause difficulty for the reader. There are persistent issues with verb forms and tenses (e.g., 'own house had more importance', 'it support', 'if a students which have'), missing articles (e.g., 'for buy house', 'for buy a new home'), and incorrect prepositions or relative clauses. Punctuation is also problematic, with fragmented sentences appearing throughout the text. To improve, the student needs to master basic sentence construction, ensure subject-verb agreement, and develop accurate control over complex grammatical patterns.
