In some countries owning a home rather than renting one is very important for people. Why might this be the case? Do you think this is a positive or negative situation?

Student answer (Band 4.0)

There is significantly positive decision to take a rented home. Alright, In some countries this is an essential core decision to take a rented home as compared to their own household.

It will be a positive decision in that sense when the people rented their own house they will take the house on that type of investment which was beneficial for their future life.

Ultimately they spend their handsome amount of money which was reserved for owning their house they have to spend that amount on the other luxury necessities of their life car, Air conditioner, or any other visual things which is more crucial.

Mainly the important module is that people can't afford the property whenever it transfers their own name so they emphasize to take a house which is on rent and give the rent on monthly bases.

Moreover, in some states people can't afford the home which has their ownership so they prefers to take that apartment or home on rent so that they will avoid to pay large amount of money and other necessary taxes on their property. Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5

The response addresses the prompt only partially and touches upon both why people might rent and whether this situation is positive or negative, but the ideas remain very limited and under-developed. Furthermore, the length requirement is not met, as the response contains only 242 words, falling short of the 250-word minimum. The argument shifts confusingly between stating that renting is positive because capital can be invested elsewhere, and then noting that it is seen negatively as a sign of irresponsibility. To reach a higher level, the writer needs to expand fully on each prompt requirement with extended, well-supported arguments and ensure the minimum word count is satisfied.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 3.5

There is some basic organization with discernible paragraphs, but the response lacks a clear overall progression. Cohesive devices are used mechanically and sometimes inaccurately, such as starting sentences with phrases like 'Alright,' or 'Alternatively this is the go towards the negative site'. Referencing is frequently unclear, making it difficult to follow the logical links between sentences and ideas. To improve coherence, the writer should structure paragraphs more logically with clear topic sentences and employ cohesive links more naturally to guide the reader smoothly through the arguments.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, employing frequent awkward collocations and word choices that strain the reader's comprehension. Examples include phrases like 'spend their handsome amount of money', 'visual things', and 'transfers their own name'. There are also noticeable errors in word forms and vocabulary usage. To progress to a higher band, the writer must expand their lexical range significantly, use less common vocabulary with greater precision, and pay closer attention to natural word combinations and appropriate stylistic choices.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The writing displays a very limited range of structures, and attempts at complex or longer sentences are frequently faulty, leading to distorted meaning and confusion. There are frequent errors in verb forms, tenses, article usage, and prepositions within grammatical patterns, such as 'when the people rented their own house' and 'people can't afford the home which has their ownership'. To improve, the writer needs to demonstrate better control over basic sentence patterns, reduce the frequency of grammatical errors, and ensure that complex structures are formed accurately.
