IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In some countries owning a home rather than renting one is very important for people. Why might this be the case? Do you think this is a positive or negative situation?
Student answer (Band 5.0)
In my prospectives owning a home make our life little comfortable and more dependent as well, If we are talking about renting home we have a responsibility in our shoulders to fullfill the rent, electricity bill, water bill and every miscllenous bill every month which also create some pressure on mind if the situtation is not going in favour of a respected person who have to pay the essentials.
Furthermore if we have our own property many things automatically be shortened and the scenarios are also be different in this condition. People feel more safe in our own home and there's some extra privacy also be there.
In my point of view there's a partially outcomes for this situation. If we are talking about some positive aspects there are many factors included in it which contains owning a home have a pride for people in today's generation and owning a home is also have create a great feeling or status symbol for people who did hard work to earn their home, Additionally the amount of money which they pay as a rent before home will save for the future also which also create some good income for most of the people.
Negative ratios are depend on the income of the people also if someone have ow income and the rent is high they almost have nothing to save for the future and renting a home means you have to pay the whole rent every month and people will not save their hard work money

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses the prompt by discussing why homeownership is important and providing a personal perspective on whether it is a positive or negative situation. However, the ideas remain limited and under-developed. For instance, the discussion on positive aspects briefly touches upon pride and a status symbol, but these points are not fully extended or supported with deeper elaboration. The writer's position is discernible, particularly when stating that there are partially positive and negative outcomes, but the overall development lacks the depth required for a higher level. The arguments tend to loop back to financial pressures without offering a wide range of distinct, well-supported viewpoints.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
There is some organisation in the essay, as the writer attempts to divide the response into introduction, body, and conclusion-like sections. However, there is no clear overall progression from one paragraph to the next. Paragraphing is handled awkwardly, with the final paragraph abruptly shifting between positive and negative elements without a smooth logical flow. Cohesive devices are used rather inadequately or repetitively, such as the constant reliance on phrases like 'If we are talking about' and 'which also create'. Referencing can also be unclear, making it occasionally difficult for the reader to follow the exact progression of ideas.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is limited and minimally adequate for the task. The writer attempts some less common phrasing, but this results in noticeable lexical errors and awkward collocations that cause some difficulty for the reader. Examples include 'prospectives' instead of perspectives, 'dependent' instead of independent, and 'miscllenous bill'. There are also spelling errors such as 'situtation', 'favour', and 'ow income'. While the writer manages to communicate basic ideas about renting versus owning, the frequent lexical inaccuracies restrict the precision and fluency of the response.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The essay displays a limited range of structures, relying mostly on long, run-on sentences joined by commas rather than proper punctuation or conjunctions. When the writer attempts complex sentence forms, they are frequently faulty, such as in the conditional clause 'if someone have ow income and the rent is high they almost have nothing to save'. There are frequent errors in agreement, articles, prepositions, and verb forms—for example, 'owning a home make', 'responsibility in our shoulders', and 'the amount of money... will save'. These persistent errors cause noticeable difficulty and strain for the reader throughout the text.
