IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In some countries owning a home rather than renting one is very important for people. Why might this be the case? Do you think this is a positive or negative situation?
Student answer (Band 5.0)
Mostly people nowadays want to have a seperate home rather than living with family and same is the case with renting and buying own house.
People nowadays tends to have their own house in many countries due to many reasons such as high cost of living, low wages ,High rents, and most importantly doing a job rather than doing buisness. These reasons highly reflect the idea of owning a house to live better life because you will have no tension of giving rents or increase in rents of the house yearly.
Mostly people in low income countries can not afford to buy house due to which they are tend to live in others houses.
In high income countries many people own houses which they never give on rent which indirectly influences the loe income people in that countries because nowadays the corporate sector is very fragile and if rich people buy houses at any cost it indirectly increases the rates of property which the poor people can not afford to buy and they are tend to live in rented houses as they have no source of income higher than the elite class people.
Owning a house is a good thing but this is not the main problem. The main problem is to address the problem of people that why they are willing to have their own houses rather than living the apartments owned by the country or the elite class people as they own most of the property of the country and they can interfere in the prices of the property.
In my opinion there needs to be a regulatory authority in a country to address the concerns regarding the big whales who rules the markets and tortures poor people.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response addresses the task only partially. While you attempt to answer both parts of the prompt regarding why owning a home is important and whether this is a positive or negative situation, your ideas remain limited and under-developed. For example, you mention reasons such as 'high cost of living' and 'High rents,' but you do not fully explain how these factors directly drive the cultural or financial importance of homeownership. Similarly, your stance on whether this situation is positive or negative is not always clear, as the discussion shifts somewhat confusingly into broader economic critiques of the corporate sector and elite classes rather than focusing squarely on the housing trend itself. To reach a higher level, you need to present a more clearly sustained position and extend your supporting ideas with deeper explanations and concrete examples.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
There is some basic organization to your writing, but it lacks a clear overall progression from paragraph to paragraph. The transition between ideas often feels abrupt, and your cohesive devices are sometimes inadequate or repetitive, such as the frequent reliance on 'Nowadays' and 'because.' Paragraphing is attempted, but the logical flow within paragraphs is frequently disrupted by shifting arguments, making it difficult for the reader to follow your main line of thought. For instance, the leap from low-income housing issues to global corporate fragility lacks smooth transitional phrasing. To improve in this area, ensure each paragraph has a distinct central topic and use a wider variety of accurate cohesive markers to guide the reader seamlessly through your arguments.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
Your vocabulary range is limited but minimally adequate to convey your basic message. You attempt some less common vocabulary, such as 'regulatory authority' and 'corporate sector,' but there are noticeable errors in word choice, word form, and spelling that occasionally cause difficulty for the reader. For example, terms like 'seperate' contain spelling mistakes, and phrasing such as 'doing buisness' or 'loe income people' demonstrates lexical inaccuracies. Furthermore, expressions like 'big whales who rules the markets' are overly informal and inappropriate for an academic essay. To achieve a higher score, you should focus on expanding your vocabulary range, improving your spelling, and selecting precise, formal terminology that accurately reflects academic style and collocations.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
Your writing displays a limited range of sentence structures, relying primarily on simple or repetitive complex patterns that are often faulty. There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including issues with subject-verb agreement, articles, and prepositions inside grammatical patterns. For instance, you write 'People nowadays tends to have' instead of 'tend,' and 'poor people can not afford to buy and they are tend to live,' which contains both an unnecessary passive structure and missing articles. Punctuation and capitalization are also inconsistent, such as capitalizing words mid-sentence like 'High rents.' To improve your grammatical score, you need to demonstrate greater control over complex sentence forms and carefully proofread your work to eliminate frequent errors in verb forms and agreements.
