IELTS Writing Task 2 question

In some countries owning a home rather than renting one is very important for people. Why might this be the case? Do you think this is a positive or negative situation?

Student answer (Band 5.0)

In few nations, individuals are mainly focuced on owning a home rather than renting becuse in today's era rent are so high in metropotian city due to large population, economic hub so everyone can not afford it. I belive that this is negative development. My stance discuss farther with relevant examples.

To begin with, there are few main reasons to be people are owning a home as comapre to depans on renting. The first one is people are prefering as a investment perpose. If the person who buy the house in prime locations, the price will be high in next few yaers becuse government would introduce new scheme or policies in this location so people buy home. Another on is people whould like to live in own home, for the reason is individuals who lived in rent home they do not make their as per planning or decorating the house, while on the own home they make whatever they want and as per plane. Hence, people are would to choose they own home.

On this point i believe that is negative development becuse corrporate worker or salaries worker are mainly depand on slaries or fixed income, people whould choose near by the work or offices, person who migrated to different cites to another city so they have enough money to purchase new home. Neverthless, the people are only depens on rent cycle. For examples, in Gandhinagar city have various officies such as Google, Microsoft and other bank's main offices, number of works are working in this city and at minimal amount of annual package, So they do not buy home in prime city. In addition, people have not afford a owning home as comapar to rent.

In conclusion, although people who are came from middle class, so they only depends on fixed income so they have not enough money to buy new home. I belive that it is depends on person who are in business or job, somepeople are liked to live in their own home rather than renting or EMI cycle.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses the main parts of the prompt by discussing why owning a home is important and presenting a clear personal stance that this is a negative development. However, the ideas remain somewhat limited and under-developed. For instance, the reasons given for why people want to own a home, such as investment purposes and creative freedom, are stated rather than fully extended with robust explanation. Similarly, the reasoning supporting the negative view regarding salaried workers and high property costs lacks sufficient detail and persuasive depth. To reach a higher level, the writer needs to expand on the implications of this housing trend, ensuring each main point is thoroughly supported with clear arguments and fully realized examples.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The essay displays some overall organization, with an introduction, distinct body paragraphs, and a brief conclusion, but there is a lack of clear overall progression. Paragraphing is attempted, yet the internal flow within paragraphs is frequently disrupted. Cohesive devices are used awkwardly or inaccurately, such as repetitive transitions like 'To begin with,' 'On this point,' and 'In conclusion,' which do not always signal logical relationships effectively. Furthermore, referencing is sometimes unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the train of thought seamlessly. To improve cohesion, the writer should employ a wider and more accurate range of linking words and ensure that each sentence leads naturally into the next with precise pronoun referencing and logical progression.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited and minimally adequate for the task. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary items, such as 'metropotian,' 'economic hub,' and 'corporate worker,' but these are often accompanied by noticeable errors in word form, spelling, and collocation, such as 'focuced,' 'becuse,' 'metropotian,' 'depans,' and 'salaries worker.' These lexical inaccuracies occasionally cause difficulty for the reader. To achieve a higher score, the writer needs to expand their lexical repertoire, pay closer attention to correct word forms and spelling, and use vocabulary more naturally and precisely in context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The text relies on a limited range of sentence structures, and attempts at complex sentences are frequently faulty. There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the response, including issues with subject-verb agreement, verb tenses, missing or incorrect articles, and faulty prepositions within grammatical patterns, such as 'rent are so high,' 'person who buy,' 'in next few yaers,' and 'people have not afford a owning home.' These errors occur with high frequency and can cause difficulty and strain for the reader. To progress, the writer should practice constructing error-free complex sentences, paying special attention to basic grammatical rules, verb forms, and accurate punctuation.
