Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0
The response only minimally addresses the prompt, failing to reach the required word count of at least 250 words, as it stops abruptly at 102 words. Furthermore, the writer misinterprets the premise of the prompt by stating that people think renting a home is more important than owning one, which contradicts the core statement of the task. The ideas presented regarding earning money and establishing a business are extremely limited and under-developed, leaving the prompt's questions about why homeownership matters and whether it is a positive or negative situation largely unanswered.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 3.5
There is some basic organisation attempted through separate paragraphs and introductory phrasing, but there is no clear overall progression of ideas. The essay lacks adequate cohesive devices, and referencing is unclear, leading to a disjointed flow. The response also trails off mid-sentence at the end ("because..."), which severely disrupts the logical structure and shows that paragraphing is used insufficiently and inappropriately for an academic response.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, featuring frequent spelling and word-choice errors, such as "peope", "benifits", and "jobless" instead of unemployment. There are also inaccurate collocations like "stay on rent house". These noticeable lexical limitations and errors constrain the precision of the writing, reflecting a vocabulary range that is minimally adequate but often strains the reader's understanding.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The grammatical structures are very limited, relying heavily on simple sentences and faulty attempts at complex forms. There are frequent errors in basic grammar, including missing articles (e.g., "renting home"), incorrect verb forms ("They wanted to do business"), and poor subject-verb agreement. Punctuation is also problematic, and the incomplete final sentence demonstrates a lack of control over basic sentence construction.
