Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

The response is significantly under the minimum word count requirement, containing only 184 words instead of the required 250 words, which severely restricts the development of ideas. The writer attempts to address both parts of the prompt by discussing why homeownership is important and whether it is a positive or negative situation, establishing a clear personal position. However, the ideas are severely limited and under-developed. For instance, the reasons provided for why homeownership matters, such as cultural values and protection, are stated rather than extended or supported with well-reasoned arguments. The discussion remains quite repetitive and lacks the depth expected for a higher score.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

There is some basic organisation in the text, with an introduction, a couple of body paragraphs, and a concluding remark, showing an attempt at paragraphing. However, there is no clear overall progression of ideas throughout the essay. Cohesive devices are basic, repetitive, and sometimes inaccurate or inappropriately used, such as the frequent misuse of transitional phrases like 'To begin with', 'On the other hand', and 'To sum up'. Referencing is also not always clear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the logical flow of arguments smoothly. The overall arrangement feels disjointed due to the lack of effective logical links between sentences and paragraphs.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The vocabulary used is limited and barely adequate for the task. There are noticeable errors in word choice, word form, and spelling throughout the response, such as 'priortized', 'culturel', 'existance', 'cittizen', 'wile', 'aperment', 'caim', 'benifit', 'Elabortingon', 'protecte', 'seacure', 'attemp', 'sattel', and 'owining'. These lexical errors and awkward collocations cause some difficulty for the reader and impede clear communication. While the writer attempts to use some less common vocabulary related to housing and society, the high density of spelling and word formation mistakes keeps the score at this level.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The writer uses a very limited range of grammatical structures, relying heavily on basic sentence forms. Attempts at more complex sentences are consistently faulty, containing frequent errors in verb forms, tenses, subject-verb agreement, articles, and prepositions. Examples of grammatical inaccuracies include 'letting cittizen wile be lost', 'they need to sit under the houseowner', 'If owner ask to live they need shift', and 'have own home has benifit'. Punctuation is also poorly controlled with erratic spacing and missing full stops. These frequent errors cause considerable difficulty for the reader and demonstrate a weak command of sentence construction.
