IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In some countries owning a home rather than renting one is very important for people. Why might this be the case? Do you think this is a positive or negative situation?
Student answer (Band 5.5)
In numerous countries, people prefer to have their own house rather than being a tenant. Owning a home provides individuals several advantages as it is a great way to secure ownership in a country and also it considered to hold a great pride in many countries. So, i view this trend as a positive development.
There are many reasons why owning a home or property is viewed as an essential step in everyone’s life. It provides long term stability. Homeowner can stay in their home comfortably, whichever the way they prefer. There are no uncertainity of leaving the home. They dont need to depend on landlords. Additionally, there are a lot of costs living in a rent apartment and also it comes with lots of rules and regulations which is very tiresome for tenants. Due to that reason, people tend to stay in a home which not only gives them shelter but alsp freedom.
Although some argue that owning a home may result in several adverse effects, I am of the opinion that this movement is a positive approach. There are many people who moved to abroad and wants settled over there and this could only be possible having your own apartment. For instance, there are many citizens in Canada and Uk who got their citizenship due to buying a apartment or a house. Moreover, in many countries having your own apartment seen as a basic needs wether its a small or big apartment. Which is the reason people who worked their whole life in a government job, they saved money and plan from earlier to buy a house later. Therefore, having your own home is a positive situation for individuals.
In conclusion, although people have splits opinion about wether having your own house or being in rented house, i personally believe owning a house is a positive development because of its potential advantages. It provides security, pride and freedom to live in their own way.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response successfully addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both the reasons why homeownership is important and presenting a clear position that this is a positive situation. Your ideas are relevant, such as mentioning long-term stability and freedom from landlords in the second paragraph. However, some ideas remain under-developed or somewhat unclear. For instance, the claim that buying an apartment helps people obtain citizenship in Canada or the UK is not fully explained or supported with accurate context. To reach a higher level, you should expand your arguments with more specific, well-reasoned explanations and avoid sweeping statements that require deeper elaboration.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
Your essay has a coherent overall arrangement and is divided into appropriate paragraphs, beginning with an introduction, followed by body paragraphs, and a clear conclusion. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical or faulty. For instance, transitional phrases like 'Due to that reason' and 'Therefore' are occasionally overused or clunky. Furthermore, referencing is not always clear, such as the pronoun 'it' in the phrase 'it considered to hold a great pride'. To improve, you should ensure that cohesive devices are used more naturally to link your sentences and ideas smoothly, and make sure that referencing pronouns clearly point back to their intended subjects.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common words and phrases such as 'long term stability' and 'adverse effects'. However, there are noticeable word choice, collocation, and spelling errors that prevent a higher score, such as 'rent apartment' instead of 'rental apartment', 'alsp' instead of 'also', 'wether' instead of 'whether', and 'splits opinion' instead of 'divided opinion'. While these errors do not seriously impede communication, working on precise word forms and mastering common collocations will help elevate your lexical score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
Your writing displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating that you can construct multi-clause sentences such as 'Although some argue that owning a home may result in several adverse effects, I am of the opinion that this movement is a positive approach.' However, there are several errors in grammar and punctuation throughout the text, including capitalization issues ('i view'), missing articles ('having your own apartment seen as a basic needs'), subject-verb agreement errors ('Homeowner can stay'), and run-on sentences. While these errors rarely impede communication, reducing them and increasing your control over complex structures will help you achieve a higher band.
