IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In some countries owning a home rather than renting one is very important for people. Why might this be the case? Do you think this is a positive or negative situation?
Student answer (Band 5.0)
In many countries buying a own house can be benefited more than renting a home because many people can save a money monthly instead of paying a huge rents.Reason for this and positive or negative situation will be discussed in the following essay.
To begin with many individuals will rent a house rather then owing because due to lack of amount they feel more convenient in renting a home they are not ready to take loan and fell in huge debt and emi schemes. So, instead of buying they will rent and pay monthly from their salaries.
From my own perspective it is totally a negative situation because many people will migrate from one country to another due to their work and study. So, renting will be more convenient then buying a own house they will already be in a debt while migration they might be taken a loan.Since, they can afford to buy a own home instantly after coming to a new country they will need enough time to settle and they can be a owner later. Moreover, if they are tenant then they can easily earn and pay the rent also they will have responsibilities of their living expenses too so they will fell into a huge debt if they have not pay the loan amount on time there is a chance of property ceise.
In conclusion, it is clear that due to lack of amount many of them rent a home intead of owing them additionally renting is convenient option then buying a home if they are migrated for a reason.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You attempt to address both why home ownership matters and whether this is positive or negative, and you state a clear view that the situation is negative. However, the explanation of why people value owning a home is not developed: the opening mentions saving money compared with rent, but the body mainly explains why renting may suit people who lack funds or migrate. This leaves the central question only partially answered, and the discussion of migration does not clearly explain why owning a home is important in some countries. Your position is also difficult to follow because you call ownership negative while arguing that renting is more convenient. Develop the reasons behind the preference for ownership, then explain consistently whether that preference benefits individuals or society.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The response has an introduction, body paragraphs and a conclusion, so there is an attempt to organise the discussion. Some links are signalled with phrases such as “To begin with,” “Moreover” and “In conclusion.” However, the overall progression is unclear: the first body paragraph discusses renting, and the next shifts to migration without a clear connection to the stated question about the importance of owning a home. Several sentences combine multiple ideas, making relationships difficult to follow, particularly the long sentence beginning “Moreover, if they are tenant.” The conclusion repeats the point about renting being convenient rather than bringing the argument together. Use one paragraph to explain the preference for ownership and another to evaluate its effects, with clearer links between each claim and its support.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant topic vocabulary, including “renting,” “loan,” “debt,” “migrate” and “living expenses,” which helps communicate the general subject. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or repetitive, sometimes making the meaning less clear. Examples include “a own house,” “save a money,” “huge rents,” “lack of amount” and “property ceise.” The repeated use of “rent,” “buying” and “home” also limits precision. Aim to learn common housing collocations and check spelling and word forms. More precise expressions such as “purchase a property,” “monthly rent,” “financial constraints” and “risk of foreclosure” would help you express the ideas more naturally.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and longer sentence forms, including clauses introduced by “because,” “if” and “since.” However, the longer structures are often faulty, and frequent errors in articles, verb forms, agreement and sentence boundaries can make the reader work to understand the message. For example, “many people can save a money” has an article problem, while “they might be taken a loan” and “if they have not pay” have incorrect verb forms. The opening also joins sentences without appropriate punctuation, and several sentences run together. Practise building accurate short sentences first, then combine them using one clear subordinate clause at a time. Check articles, subject–verb agreement and consistent tense before submitting.
