IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In some countries owning a home rather than renting one is very important for people. Why might this be the case? Do you think this is a positive or negative situation?
Student answer (Band 4.5)
This is very intersting topic to explain for me in some country people prefer to buy a house rather than paying rent for me this is good thing because owning a house is good thing to save money despite of paying rent whole life people can spemd their rental money on some bussiness they earn alot from this This is foolish thing to paying rent whole life and at the end stage of life when you are unable to earn money then you live a miserable life with no house This case is higher in many countries because it is benefical for people even the rent of house is too high those days buying one is best option than wasting half of the money on rent In rental house they gives you order live like this some house owners do not allow pet in their house This is like live a miserable and life of slavery If person has his own house then he can live as he want He can decorate his house according to his choice This is most positive situation i have ever seen In rental house you changed many houses house owner gives you notice any time government should also take this case positive because this is the good thing to own a house
i will always prefer to own a house there is also some disadvantages like you have to invest more money but its benefits are more than disadvantages I think government should leave it on person choice

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You address both parts of the prompt: you suggest that people buy homes to avoid paying rent throughout life and to gain freedom over pets and decoration, and you clearly regard home ownership as positive. These are relevant reasons, and the final acknowledgement that buying requires more investment adds a small element of balance. However, the explanation of why ownership matters is repetitive and often asserted rather than developed; for example, “This is foolish thing to paying rent whole life” is not supported with a specific explanation of the financial or social pressures involved. The claim that owners can earn from rental money is also unclear. Develop two or three reasons with concrete explanation, and make the positive judgement more measured and consistently supported.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
The response contains several relevant points, including financial security, control over one’s home, and the instability of renting. However, these ideas are presented in one long block, with no clear paragraphing to separate the reasons from the evaluation. Many sentences run together, such as the opening sequence from “This is very intersting topic” through “earn alot from this,” making relationships between claims difficult to follow. Repeated transitions such as “This is” and “In rental house” do little to show how ideas connect, and references like “This case” are unclear. Organise the essay into an introduction, reason paragraphs, and a conclusion; use clear sentence boundaries and linking phrases that express cause, contrast, and result.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
You communicate the central topic using basic vocabulary such as “house,” “rent,” “money,” and “choice,” and some phrases convey relevant ideas, including “decorate his house according to his choice.” However, the vocabulary is limited and repetitive, and several word choices or collocations make meaning awkward: “rental money” does not clearly express the intended idea, “live a miserable and life of slavery” is unnatural, and “the rent of house is too high those days” is imprecise. Spelling errors such as “intersting,” “spemd,” “bussiness,” and “benefical” are also noticeable. Build a more precise range for housing and financial security, and check spelling and natural word combinations when revising.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
You attempt to express several connected ideas and include a conditional structure in “If person has his own house then he can live as he want.” However, most sentences rely on simple patterns, and frequent errors in sentence boundaries, agreement, articles, and verb forms make the response difficult to read. For example, “some house owners do not allow pet” needs a plural or article, while “they gives you order live like this” has problems with agreement and sentence construction. The opening is also a run-on sentence, with several independent ideas joined without appropriate punctuation. Practise writing shorter, complete sentences first, then combine them using accurate clauses and conjunctions; check subject–verb agreement and articles during editing.
