IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In some countries owning a home rather than renting one is very important for people. Why might this be the case? Do you think this is a positive or negative situation?
Student answer (Band 5.5)
In many countries people think that buying an house is more important for most of the people rather then renting. This because people might feel more confortable in home that they own. Additionally, majority of people see buying a house as an invesment for future. I completely agree with owing your home rather then renting one.
Many people feel much more relaxed and confortable if they own thier house. This is because they consider it as there private space where as rented space can feel like someone`s else property. People which useally own there house settle in area and are more inclined to start a family there For example, People living in rented house can be evicted without prior notice and they find themselfs in uncomfortable stiuation with a shelter. This type of situation can be very depressing for majority of people.
The other reason is, People owing thier house consider thier house as an investment for themself and there family. They can raise a family there and be part of the comunity. There money is safe and also gorws in some cases as the value of there home goes up. Secondly, they are not stressed about missing on rent payment which in return help them safe more for the future. For example, people who bought there house in the last decade in Multan have experienced value of thier property doubled.
In conclusion, i think owing a house is much more preferable then renting one because people feel more confortable in thier own personal space. Other then that, it can be a future investment for you and your family as well.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address both parts of the prompt: you explain why ownership matters, citing personal security and the belief that a home is an investment, and you clearly state that you consider it preferable to renting. The example of property values in Multan also gives your investment point some specific support. This meets the task well, and your position is clear in the introduction and conclusion. However, the discussion of why ownership is important is more fully developed than your evaluation of whether this is positive or negative. The benefits are presented, but you do not consider possible drawbacks or explain the wider effects of prioritising ownership. To strengthen the response further, extend the reasoning behind each main point and make the positive judgement explicit throughout.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs with separate reasons, and a conclusion. The progression from personal security to financial investment is logical, and signposts such as “Additionally,” “The other reason,” and “In conclusion” help readers follow the argument. At times, however, linking is mechanical or unclear. “Secondly” introduces another point within the investment paragraph without a clear relationship to the preceding sentence, while “Other then that” in the conclusion is an awkward transition. Some references, such as “there” and “they,” are not always easy to follow. Use fewer formulaic connectors and make the relationship between ideas explicit; clearer sentence boundaries would also improve the flow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “private space,” “evicted,” “investment,” “community,” and “value of their home.” However, the range is limited by repeated use of “house,” “people,” and “comfortable,” and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, such as “safe more” and “missing on rent payment.” Spelling errors—including “confortable,” “invesment,” “useally,” and “comunity”—are noticeable and sometimes make reading less smooth. Aim to use more precise housing and financial vocabulary, and check spelling carefully. More natural phrases such as “save more” and “fall behind on rent” would make your meaning clearer and more fluent.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including a relative clause in “People which useally own there house settle in area” and a conditional structure in “if they own thier house.” The main ideas are generally understandable, but control is uneven: errors in articles, agreement, sentence boundaries, and punctuation recur. For example, “buying an house” needs the correct article, and “This because people might feel” is missing a verb. The long example beginning “For example, People living…” also needs clearer punctuation and sentence structure. Practise building accurate complex sentences, especially with relative clauses, and check articles and subject–verb agreement. Correcting these patterns would make the argument easier to read.
