IELTS Writing Task 2 question

In some countries owning a home rather than renting one is very important for people. Why might this be the case? Do you think this is a positive or negative situation?

Student answer (Band 4.5)

Nowadays in people have trend that we feel better comfertable to living in renting house it is more significant among people rather then they will own one. I think it is more advanatages. I will discusse positive and nagative both situation in this esaay.

Firstly, some individual consider that owning home it is one of the best investment for there next genration. In addition they hand over for rent who have no accomodation. they can get money without do nothing. For example, specially on urban areas many individuals have not residence lack of limited space. Also there are more opportunities according there job cause people come from countryside they have no option, as a result they need renting home it is increasing rent from owner.

One of the major point is that some individuals believe that renting home is more benificial in some countries specially those are very expensive many people are not able to afford there home becouse of rising inflation. Moreover if people have sufficial budget to own house still they do not want to own because they believe that In others sectores investment are more helpfull in there future, for instent they like to invest there money in bank owning gold, and spending huge company also get more income in the future.

In summary, renting home is more advantage rather then own. In my opinion people sift anyothers place according there job and that can more benificial for the goverment job because people move easily and stay there if they have not house they can rent whereever.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You give a clear overall preference for renting in the conclusion, and you include relevant points about mobility for work, high housing costs and investing money elsewhere. However, the response only partly answers the question: the reasons why home ownership is important in some countries are not clearly explained, and the opening says owning a home is important before shifting to renting. The first body paragraph discusses owners earning rental income, while the next argues for renting, so the central comparison and your position are difficult to follow. Examples such as investing in gold or banks are mentioned but not explained. Develop a focused answer to both questions, with a consistent position and fuller explanation of each main reason.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The response has an introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion, and signposts such as “Firstly,” “Moreover” and “In summary” show an attempt to organise ideas. However, progression is difficult to follow because the introduction promises to discuss both sides, the first body paragraph shifts between ownership and rental income, and the second moves from affordability to other investments without a clear link. Some connections are also unclear, as in “Also there are more opportunities according there job.” Use each paragraph to develop one main point, connect examples directly to that point, and make references explicit. A clearer sequence—reasons for ownership, then your evaluation of renting—would make the argument easier to follow.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

You attempt vocabulary relevant to housing and finance, including “investment,” “accomodation,” “rising inflation,” “residence” and “opportunities.” However, the range is basic and many spelling, word-form and collocation errors make the message harder to understand, for example “comfertable to living,” “more benificial,” “sufficial budget” and “spending huge company.” Some expressions are also imprecise, such as “they can get money without do nothing.” Choose common, accurate phrases before attempting less familiar vocabulary, and check spelling and word combinations. For instance, explain that owners can earn rental income, and refer to investing in companies rather than “spending huge company.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

You attempt some longer sentences using “because,” “as a result” and “if,” but control of sentence structure is very limited and errors occur throughout, sometimes obscuring meaning. Examples include “some individual consider that owning home it is one of the best investment” and “people come from countryside they have no option,” where clauses are joined without a clear grammatical structure. There are also recurring problems with articles, agreement and verb forms, as in “they do not want to own because they believe” and “people sift anyothers place.” Practise building accurate simple sentences first, then combine them with one subordinate clause. Check subject–verb agreement, articles and sentence boundaries during proofreading.
