IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In some countries owning a home rather than renting one is very important for people. Why might this be the case? Do you think this is a positive or negative situation?
Student answer (Band 5.0)
Home is like a paradise for any person. Having a home and shelter is such a blessing from God. The importace of home can only be realised by a homeless person. In many countries all over the World, people live in both their own or in renting house. In some countries people cannot afford their own houses because of poverty. However, my perspectives are quite different. I say, having own home is better than of renting one. The poor should also try to buy a small but own house. It may be useful in many ways.
Prior to all, having own home is a source of relaxation and joy. Secondly, there is no tension of rent and fair of any thing on you, which is a geart relief. Then having own property can make you courage enough to face hard situation. This means if you have your own thing, no one from your surroundings would be able to tease you in any way.
A person can visit all the World, he can explore all things on land and water as well, but the he can't find the peace at all these places which his own home provides him. As a famous proverb is, " East or west home is best". For all basic reasons, this is absolutely a postive situation. If anyone is trying to say this as a negative situation, he has not more than one reason i.e poverty.
Therefore, everyone should work hard for having this blessing of God, Ignoring all people's point of views.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You give a clear overall preference for owning a home, and you offer relevant reasons such as avoiding rent and gaining a sense of security. However, the task asks both why home ownership is especially important in some countries and whether this is positive or negative. The response mainly argues that owning is better in general; it does not explain country-specific causes, such as cultural expectations, housing markets, or limited rental security. Several points, including “relaxation and joy” and the claim that others cannot “tease you,” are asserted rather than explained with examples. The position is present, but the discussion is limited and does not fully address both parts of the question. Develop the reasons and connect them directly to the situation described.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a basic paragraph structure: an introduction, supporting points, and a conclusion. Sequencing phrases such as “Secondly,” “Then,” and “Therefore” help signal the order of ideas. However, progression is not consistently clear: the discussion moves from rent and security to travelling around the world, without explaining how that comparison supports the argument. Some linking is mechanical, and the conclusion repeats the preference rather than drawing together the reasons. The opening also introduces poverty, but this idea is not developed until a brief reference at the end. Organise the body around two clearly explained reasons, use transitions that show the relationship between ideas, and make references such as “this” or “these places” more precise.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some topic-related vocabulary, including “shelter,” “property,” “poverty,” and “relief,” and the reader can generally understand your main point. However, the range is limited and several choices or collocations are inaccurate, which sometimes makes the meaning awkward: “fair of any thing” appears to mean fear of expenses, while “make you courage enough” is not a natural expression. There are also noticeable spelling errors, including “importace,” “geart,” and “postive.” Repeated use of “home,” “own,” and “thing” limits precision. Build a more accurate set of phrases for housing and financial security, and check spelling and collocations during revision.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt some longer structures, for example, “A person can visit all the World … but the he can't find the peace,” and use a conditional form in “if you have your own thing.” However, the range is limited, and complex sentences are often faulty. Examples include “people live in both their own or in renting house,” “having own home,” and “he has not more than one reason,” where articles, parallel structure, or sentence construction are problematic. The sentence beginning “As a famous proverb is” is also not formed correctly. These recurring errors can make parts of the response difficult to follow. Practise accurate article use and parallel comparisons, and build longer sentences from simpler, correct clauses before adding subordinate clauses.
