IELTS Writing Task 2 question

In some countries owning a home rather than renting one is very important for people. Why might this be the case? Do you think this is a positive or negative situation?

Student answer (Band 4.5)

Owning house more than renting is very vital for people in the many countries. I think it may create both positive or negative impact for people and government. If people have their own home that can future assit and they have enough space for living. It hard to manage all thing in the home and they can pay tax for government.

many people think that people perfer to renting than housing. Especailly these people who comes to teaching higher eudcation and better careers opportunity. They are not living long time there so they have one option to renting. For example, countrieside people are moving urban area for building career and better service. There are penlaty of fututer option to learn many thing such as communication, better eudcation and good heathcare. Therefore, people can move different place then living rent. Furthermore, many people can not afford home so they have alternative option to living rent apartment.

I think it might create negative impact Individuals and government for renting apartment. Those people live rent home people do not have fututer accsit. If something happen or investment. On the other hand, rural area people move to cities and growing population which badly effects there local people as well as limited resouces. There people might few career option because higher population becomes very compeitions.

In conclusion, renting is more important than home because it very affortable and accesible to live. However, i stronlgy believe that having home is more vital because it might fututer accsit and there have enough space live.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You address both questions and give a position: the opening says home ownership can have positive and negative effects, while the conclusion says owning a home is more important. However, the position is not consistently clear, since the essay also concludes that renting is “more important” before reversing this view. You offer relevant reasons, including security and space from owning a home, and mobility or affordability as reasons to rent. These points are often only briefly stated or difficult to interpret; for example, “future assist” is not explained, and the effects of renting on individuals and government are unclear. Develop each reason with a clear explanation or example, and make your overall judgement consistent.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The response has an introduction, body paragraphs and a conclusion, and some signposting—such as “For example,” “Furthermore,” and “On the other hand”—helps show relationships between points. However, the progression is difficult to follow because the essay shifts between why people rent, the effects of renting, and the benefits of owning without a clear sequence. The contrast between the opening and conclusion also weakens the overall line of argument. Some references are unclear, as in “Those people live rent home people,” and several ideas are joined without showing how they connect. Organise the essay around the two task questions, use one main idea per paragraph, and make linking phrases and pronouns refer clearly to specific points.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

You attempt vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “affordable,” “career opportunity,” “limited resources,” and “population,” and you try to express ideas about mobility and security. However, the range is limited and many word-choice, collocation, word-form and spelling errors make parts difficult to understand. Examples include “future assit,” “penlaty of fututer option,” and “good heathcare”; repeated use of “people,” “home,” and “rent” also makes the writing less precise. Choose common topic vocabulary accurately before attempting more ambitious phrases. Proofread spelling and use natural combinations such as “rent an apartment,” “own a home,” and “access to healthcare.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

You use some simple sentences and attempt longer structures with reasons and contrast, including “For example, countrieside people are moving urban area for building career” and “On the other hand, rural area people move to cities.” However, the range is limited, and errors in sentence construction, agreement, articles, plurals and verb forms occur frequently, sometimes making meaning hard to follow. For instance, “If people have their own home that can future assit” lacks a clear grammatical connection between the clauses, while “people who comes” has incorrect subject–verb agreement. Practise building accurate basic sentences first, then combine them with because, although and which. Check articles, plural nouns and agreement in each sentence.
