IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In some countries owning a home rather than renting one is very important for people. Why might this be the case? Do you think this is a positive or negative situation?
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Instead of rention home, people nowadays love to owe it. One of the important reason behind this tendancy is safety. However, I think it is a negative attitude to buy home rather than renting one due to financial losses and stackness.
Home is the place where we along with our family live for most of the times of a day. That is why some people choose to buy home due to safety purpose. They try to ensure a proper place to grow their child and live with their family without taking the risk of rented house. In rented one there are some drawbacks such as, shifting rigorously, monthly paying rent and so on. Hence, people who are economically stable mostly go for the option of owing home. For example, most of the people who are at higher income level mostly have their own house in cities.
However, in my opinion, it is one of the wrost investment. Buying home need a large amount of money at a time which may cause financial burden. In addition, the value of it may decrease over the time due to inflation. Some extra bills such as electricity and gas, have to pay by the owners which are not have to consider in rented one. Also, permanant housing restricts the opportunity to transfer from one place to other in case of any emergency. For example, government employee who need to relocate in differnt places due to work demand, experience trouble when they own a permanent house.
In conclusion, although safety is the main focus of owing home, sometimes this decision cause drawbacks because of economic burden and lower chance to relocate.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address both parts of the prompt: safety is given as a reason people prefer ownership, and you clearly judge the situation negatively because of financial pressure and reduced mobility. The examples about families wanting a stable home and employees needing to relocate help make the response relevant. This meets the task well overall, but some points are asserted rather than fully explained. For instance, the claim that a home’s value may decrease “due to inflation” needs clarification, since inflation does not necessarily reduce property values. The discussion of extra bills could also be linked more directly to why ownership is less desirable than renting. Develop these points with more precise reasoning to make the argument more convincing.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction states your position, the first body paragraph explains the appeal of ownership, the second presents disadvantages, and the conclusion restates your view. Linking expressions such as “However,” “In addition,” and “For example” make the progression easy to follow. Some connections are nevertheless mechanical or unclear. “Hence” introduces a conclusion that is not fully established, and “Also” begins another point without showing how it relates to the preceding financial argument. The conclusion repeats the main ideas but does not synthesise them. Use referencing more precisely and make the relationship between each supporting point and your central argument explicit; this would make the organisation feel more fluent.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant topic vocabulary, including “financial burden,” “economically stable,” “relocate,” and “permanent house,” and the reader can generally understand your intended meaning. However, noticeable spelling and word-choice errors reduce precision: “rention,” “tendancy,” “wrost,” and “permanant” are examples. Several combinations are also unnatural, such as “shifting rigorously,” “safety purpose,” and “lower chance to relocate.” These choices sometimes make the reader pause to interpret the point, so the range is not yet consistently effective. Build a bank of accurate housing and finance collocations, and check spelling carefully. Prefer natural phrases such as “frequent moves,” “for security,” and “limited flexibility to relocate.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including subordinate clauses such as “who need to relocate … experience trouble” and “which may cause financial burden.” Most ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors recur in articles, agreement, verb forms, and sentence construction. For example, “One of the important reason” needs a plural noun, while “Buying home need” has a subject–verb agreement problem and needs an article. In “Some extra bills … have to pay by the owners,” the passive construction is incomplete; use “have to be paid by owners.” There are also awkward clause patterns in the final sentence. Review articles, agreement, and passive forms, then proofread complex sentences to improve accuracy.
