IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In some countries owning a home rather than renting one is very important for people. Why might this be the case? Do you think this is a positive or negative situation?
Student answer (Band 6.0)
In some countries, people consider owning a home more important than renting one. This allows people to have financial security, a long-term permanent asset, and a strong socio-cultural bond. Excessive focus on owning a house might leave a person with generational debt and limit opportunities to maximize assets, so I believe this is a negative situation.
People prefer owing a house rather than renting one, and they have their ligitimate reasons for that. Owning a house means securing a long-term asset, that brings stability and secures generational wealth also gives an indiviual to build a stronger community. For instance, my grand father build a house seventy years ago where I cirrently live in with my family, and maybe in future my next generation will also live. Furthermore, that house and land costs thirty times more than when it was build, so if in future we decide to sell it, a huge amount of money will be there to support our finance.
Parhaps, excessive emphasize on house ownership rather than renting might lead to negative outcomes. Often people forcefully try to own a house and take big loans from the bank. Which lead to ccomplex issues such as a debpt that needs two or three generation to fill. For example, one of my friend is still bearing the loan that his grandfather took while building the house that he currently lives in.
In conclusion, securing a property is a very good initiative, helps on to build and expand wealth. But giving excessive importance on owning it, sometimes lead to complex issues. If one can build property without any loan, would be the best approach. But obessing over it might bring troubk

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address both parts of the question: you explain why home ownership appeals to people, citing security, wealth passed between generations and community ties, and you clearly judge excessive emphasis on ownership as negative. The family-house example makes the financial benefit concrete, while the friend’s inherited loan supports your concern about debt. However, the reasons for the cultural and community importance are asserted rather than explained, and the negative consequences are developed mainly through one example. The conclusion also introduces the condition of buying without a loan without fully exploring how this qualifies your position. Develop these points further and make the distinction between ownership itself and social pressure to own more explicit.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs explaining the appeal and risks of ownership, and a conclusion. The progression from benefits to drawbacks is easy to follow, and examples generally appear beside the points they support. Cohesion is sometimes less controlled, however. The opening paragraph lists several benefits, but the body does not develop all of them equally, and the sentence beginning “Which lead to complex issues” is an incomplete continuation that interrupts the flow. Some links, such as “Furthermore” and “For example,” are clear but do not always make the relationship between ideas precise. Use complete sentences and connect each example explicitly to the claim it illustrates; this would make the organisation more consistently smooth.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a relevant range of topic vocabulary, including “financial security,” “generational wealth,” “long-term asset,” and “excessive focus,” which helps communicate the main ideas. There are also attempts at more specific phrasing, such as “socio-cultural bond.” However, spelling errors and inaccurate word forms are noticeable, including “ligitimate,” “indiviual,” “emphasize” where “emphasis” is needed, and “obessing.” Some collocations are awkward: “fill” a debt is not natural, and “support our finance” is imprecise. These slips do not prevent the reader from understanding the argument, but they limit precision and control. Check spelling carefully and learn common combinations such as “repay a loan” and “support our finances.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You use both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a conditional structure in “If one can build property without any loan…” and a relative clause in “a long-term asset, that brings stability.” The main meaning is generally clear, but some grammatical errors affect accuracy. For example, “Which lead to complex issues” is a sentence fragment and needs to be joined to the preceding sentence; “one of my friend is” needs plural agreement, and “my grandfather build” needs an appropriate past-tense verb. There are also problems with articles and sentence construction, as in “gives an individual to build.” Aim to produce complete sentences, check subject–verb agreement and tense, and revise clause links while retaining your attempts at complex structures.
