IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In some countries owning a home rather than renting one is very important for people. Why might this be the case? Do you think this is a positive or negative situation?
Student answer (Band 5.5)
It is undeniable that house is a common need of every person in today's society. In this regards, in some countries people assume that owning a house instead of rented one is most crucial for people. I think it is a negative approach, but it also has some positive effect, which will be outlined in upcoming paragraph with a logical conclusion.
To commence with, it offers several significant demerits. The prime one is that burden on people. In other word, rented house is more cheaper than buying own house. People have to save large amount of money to buy new house. Sometime they have to get loans or borrow money from other people to buy the house. For example. A Carpenter, who earned around ₹20000 money of a month, may need to borrow money to buy their own house because they also have to manage money and other expenses like household items, grocery, and children demands, may not enough money to buy their own house. As a result, it can become financial challenging for some people. The another one is there rented house are easy for move. To explain it, if they live in rented house, easily move in such a situation . For instance, businessman person or employee have to move another city for their work, can easily move if they live in rented house. However, it will be not easy to move another city, if they had their own house. Thus, rented house is better option for worker.
Nevertheless, there are also some positive effects of buying their own house. The predominant one is that freedom. For epitome, people can live according to their choice and change in their home according to their taste. For example, people who live in their own house can decorate their home as they want on the other hand in rented house. They have to follow owner's interactions Therefore, people can live with freedom in their accommodation.
In conclusion, although there are few positive effect of letter notion such as freedom yet I believe that rented house has better for people for many reasons such as reduce stress and easy to move new cities.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You address both questions: you give reasons people may value ownership, especially the freedom to decorate and adapt a home, and you state that you consider this preference negative overall. However, the response only partly develops the task. Much of the first body paragraph explains why renting can be cheaper and more convenient, rather than fully explaining why owning a home is important in these countries. The financial example is relevant but lengthy and difficult to follow, while the ownership benefit is supported mainly by one example. Your position is also not entirely consistent: the introduction calls the situation negative, but the conclusion says renting is better without clearly evaluating the importance of ownership itself. Develop the social or cultural reasons for preferring ownership and make your judgement explicit throughout.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a clear overall arrangement, with an introduction, separate paragraphs for disadvantages and benefits, and a conclusion. Sequencing is generally easy to follow, and signposts such as “To commence with,” “Nevertheless,” and “In conclusion” help show the direction of the argument. However, some linking is mechanical or unclear. For example, “The another one is there rented house are easy for move” does not clearly connect the point to the preceding discussion, and “For example” is followed by a full stop before the example. References such as “letter notion” in the conclusion are difficult to interpret. To improve, use simpler, accurate transitions and make each paragraph’s main point explicit before adding its explanation and example.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some topic-related vocabulary, including “burden,” “borrow money,” “freedom,” “decorate,” and “financial,” which helps communicate the main ideas. There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “predominant” and “significant demerits.” However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate enough to make parts of the response difficult to understand. Examples include “rented house is more cheaper,” “businessman person,” “owner’s interactions,” and “letter notion.” Some expressions are also unnatural, such as “upcoming paragraph with a logical conclusion.” Aim for precise, natural combinations rather than formal-sounding words used inaccurately, and check word forms and spelling before submitting.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and longer sentence forms, including a conditional example beginning “if they live in rented house” and a relative clause about a carpenter. However, the longer constructions are often faulty, and errors occur frequently enough to make some sentences hard to follow. For instance, “A Carpenter, who earned around ₹20000 money of a month” has problems with article use, tense, and sentence structure; “people have to save large amount” also needs an article, while “they had their own house” does not fit the surrounding conditional meaning. There are also agreement and punctuation problems, as in “there are also some positive effect.” Practise building accurate short sentences first, then combine them with controlled clauses, checking articles, plurals, verb forms, and sentence boundaries.
