IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In some countries owning a home rather than renting one is very important for people. Why might this be the case? Do you think this is a positive or negative situation?
Student answer (Band 5.5)
most of the individuals having an opinion that it is iportant to have a safe and personal home instead of living in an paid homes.although i agree with this statement.this essay will discuss both views and provide a positive approach
some individuals thought that it is important to have a personal home.becuase it provides a free hand in all situations.most people take it as a responsibility and fuss to pay the monthly rents of the homes.and also it is uite expensive approach.on the other hand owning a home is affordable and reuires low maintainance for example parents ay feel proud to buy a new home because it provides a better environment to their children.having own house provides a sence of security because do not need to worry about lanlords increasing the renrs of houses or asking the to leave as a reult they live comfortably with their families for a long period of time.
i believe this situation is most possitively because owning a home provides a long term finantial benefits.instead of paying rents every month without gaining ownership .people invest in properties that may increase the prices over time .furthermore homeowners can decorate or improve their houses according to their preferences without getting permission from the land owners this can improve the uality of life and a stronger sence of belonging to their communities.
in conclusion i balieve it is a good approach because it offers security, finantial benefits and social benefits .it is a positive situation as long as people make realistic financial decisions and do not feel force to own a property

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address both parts of the prompt: you explain why people value ownership, citing security, control over the home, and avoiding rent increases or eviction, then clearly state that you see it as positive. The financial argument that property may rise in value and the point about decorating without permission are relevant supporting ideas. However, some points are asserted rather than fully explained. For example, calling ownership “affordable” and saying it requires “low maintenance” are not supported and may not apply generally. The opening also promises to “discuss both views,” although the task asks why ownership matters and whether this is positive or negative. Develop the reasons more precisely and qualify broad claims to make the response more convincing.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable overall structure: an introduction, a paragraph explaining reasons for ownership, a paragraph giving your positive view, and a conclusion. The ideas generally follow a sensible order, and linking expressions such as “on the other hand,” “furthermore,” and “in conclusion” help signal movement between points. However, progression within sentences is sometimes difficult to follow because several ideas are joined together without clear punctuation, as in the sentence beginning “having own house provides a sence of security.” The opening’s promise to discuss “both views” also does not match the essay’s actual organisation. Use clearer sentence boundaries, make each paragraph’s focus explicit, and use referencing and transitions more precisely rather than relying mainly on formulaic connectors.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “security,” “financial benefits,” “ownership,” “preferences,” and “sense of belonging.” These choices help communicate the main ideas, and there is some attempt to use topic-specific language. However, the range is limited and several noticeable spelling and word-choice errors reduce clarity, including “iportant,” “maintainance,” “renrs,” and “finantial.” Some phrases are also unnatural or imprecise: “a free hand in all situations” and “fuss to pay the monthly rents” do not express the intended ideas clearly. Build a more accurate set of collocations for housing and finance, and proofread spelling and word forms. More precise phrasing would make your arguments easier to understand.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences with reasons and examples, such as the explanation that homeowners need not worry about landlords raising rents or asking them to leave. This shows an effort to connect ideas using more than basic sentence patterns. However, control is uneven: sentence boundaries and punctuation are often missing, and some clauses are incomplete or incorrectly joined. For example, “some individuals thought that it is important… because it provides…” is not clearly punctuated, while “because do not need to worry” lacks an explicit subject. There are also errors with articles and sentence structure, as in “living in an paid homes” and “having own house.” Practise constructing complete sentences, checking subjects and verbs, and using commas and full stops to separate ideas.
