IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In some countries owning a home rather than renting one is very important for people. Why might this be the case? Do you think this is a positive or negative situation?
Student answer (Band 5.5)
Home is a place where people of a family live under same roof and live their lives with love and affection. Make lots of memories, enjoy every little moment and decorate it according to their desire. In some countries, to have own home is a dream rather than renting.
People prefer own home over renting. Rental houses have more restrictions as compared to own home. Also the charges that applies every week or a month is a distraction or may be a stress for someone. That's the reason people remain more concern about owing a home.
In past, there was a time, when there was less technology and people believed on locomation in form of groups and tribes from one place to another. People relied on natural resources. But in present, people like to stay at a single place in a society where they have complete access to necessity of life including cleanliness. For this purpose, owing a home is more important, where anyone can live his life according to his will.
If I discuss some negative aspect, so it is true that for the sake of own homes, peolpe are destroying natural habitats and land is converting into housing schemes. If everyone own their home than land for cultivation will be decrease time by time which is most concerned and alarming aspect of owing home.
For example, in Pakistan, most of the green trees and cultivated lands have been destroyed for the sake of housing schemes. It did not only impact the natural habitats, also added the pollution to the environment which is a negative impact.
As a conclusion, I would say that owing a home is a affectionate thinking for anyone but if everyone will own a home, so from where we will buy a land for cultivation?. In future, if it will continue, it will cause depletion of resources.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address both parts of the prompt: you suggest that people value ownership because rented homes bring restrictions and recurring costs, and you give a largely negative view by linking housing development to the loss of farmland and natural habitats. The Pakistan example helps make this concern concrete. However, the reasons for preferring ownership are not developed equally: the discussion of restrictions and rent is brief, while the historical paragraph about people moving in groups does not clearly explain why home ownership matters today. Your conclusion raises resource depletion but does not clearly restate a balanced, direct judgement on whether this situation is positive or negative. Develop the main reasons and make your position explicit throughout.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable overall structure, moving from an introduction to reasons, a negative consequence, an example and a conclusion. Paragraphing generally helps the reader follow these stages, and phrases such as “For example” signal supporting evidence. However, progression is uneven: the paragraph about past migration and technology is not clearly connected to the question, and the shift from the benefits of ownership to environmental harm could be signposted more clearly. Some linking is mechanical or awkward, particularly “If I discuss some negative aspect, so” and “As a conclusion.” Referencing is also occasionally unclear, as in “It did not only impact the natural habitats.” Use more natural transitions and ensure each paragraph develops one clearly connected point.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “restrictions,” “natural habitats,” “cultivated lands,” “housing schemes” and “depletion of resources.” These choices help communicate the main ideas, but the range is limited and several word-choice, collocation and spelling errors make the writing less natural. Examples include “charges that applies,” “remain more concern,” “owing a home,” and “affectionate thinking”; the intended meanings are usually understandable, but the phrasing is imprecise. There are also spelling errors such as “peolpe” and “locomation.” Aim to use accurate topic-specific expressions and check word forms and spelling. For instance, “owning a home” is more natural than repeatedly using “owing a home.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including conditional structures such as “If everyone own their home…” and a relative clause in “where they have complete access…”. However, control is inconsistent, and errors in agreement, articles, verb forms and sentence construction sometimes make the reader pause. For example, “charges that applies” should have a plural verb, while “If everyone own” needs a singular verb form. The opening fragment, “Make lots of memories…,” is not a complete sentence, and “land for cultivation will be decrease” has an incorrect verb construction. Practise building accurate complex sentences and check subject–verb agreement, articles and complete sentence boundaries. Greater accuracy would make your ideas easier to follow.
