IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In some countries owning a home rather than renting one is very important for people. Why might this be the case? Do you think this is a positive or negative situation?
Student answer (Band 5.5)
In some countries having an private owned home is essential for some people than renting one which is positive and benefitual for them because they can live freely without any stress and financial constrants its mostly because of people long term planning for their family.
In some parts of world many people prefer to buy their own house rather than renting one because of long term goals and palnning for their family as well as their future generations too. The people often buy house so that they can roof to their family so that they can live peacely and feel safe rather then renting one. Because in case of rent ownd there is no gerarentee how long will they live there also a fear of kick out by their land lord is there too.
I firmly believe that buying their own house is positive for people in many situation like they can live free about any stress. because alot os people have stress about paying rent on time so that their landlord doest not kick them out. Also having an own home allows them to make changes and renovations according to their will and need. For example like if there are 6 rooms in a home but with no any store room they can make some revnovations like cutting some rooms to make them and also they buy any furniture they want.
Another point is that they also make future planing for their generations to come for example buying big house for their kids or buying one with big ground for their kids to play in them. So i think having our own home is good for alot of families.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address both parts of the question: you explain that people buy homes for long-term family plans and greater security, and you clearly state that you see ownership as positive. The points about fear of being asked to leave, freedom to renovate, and providing for children are relevant. However, some ideas are repeated, especially the claims about family planning and freedom from stress, while the explanation of why home ownership matters in some countries remains general. The renovation example is specific, but its details are not clearly connected to the wider benefits of ownership. To strengthen the response, explain the social or economic reasons behind this preference and develop each main reason with a clearer explanation or example.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a basic paragraph structure: it introduces the issue, gives reasons for buying, explains your positive view, and ends with a concluding opinion. This helps the reader follow the broad direction of your answer. However, progression within and between paragraphs is uneven, and several points recur without adding much new information. Connectors such as “also,” “because,” and “for example” are used repeatedly, sometimes awkwardly, and the opening sentence combines several ideas without clear organisation. Some references, such as “them” in the example about children playing, are not fully clear. Group each distinct reason into a focused paragraph and use linking phrases to show how the explanation or example supports that reason.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “long term goals,” “landlord,” “stress,” “renovations,” and “future generations.” These choices communicate the main ideas, but the range is limited and several expressions are repeated, particularly “own home,” “family,” and “stress.” There are also noticeable spelling and word-choice errors, such as “benefitual,” “constrants,” “gerarentee,” and “peacely,” which can make the reader pause. Some phrases are understandable but not natural, for example “roof to their family” and “live free about any stress.” Build a more accurate range of housing-related collocations and check spelling; this will make your meaning clearer and your argument more precise.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more extended sentence forms, including explanations with “because” and examples introduced by “for example.” However, control is inconsistent, and errors in articles, agreement, sentence boundaries, and punctuation sometimes make the meaning difficult to follow. For instance, “having an private owned home is essential for some people than renting” has an incorrect article and comparison structure, while “because alot os people have stress” begins a sentence fragment after a full stop. The long opening sentence also joins several clauses without clear punctuation. Practise forming accurate comparisons and complete sentences, and review articles and subject–verb agreement. Shorter, correctly punctuated sentences would help you express your ideas more reliably.
